| Here is a link to the new updated PAO release for 2007 on the Space available on military aircraft for travel for AirForce Reserves and Air Guard and their families who wish to travel on military aircraft using official military ID cards. http://arpc.afrc.af.mil/pa/fact/factsheet.asp#Space-A_travel_ This is a great benefit if you are not using it, you should. Retirees are also eligible.

"Family members are eligible to accompany the Airman on CONUS and overseas flights after the Airman has reached age 60 and has obtained a DD Form 2 (retired/blue) ID card or a 20-year letter." What blows is that I have my 20 year letter and I'm 41. So in order for my wife to travel with me....we have to wait another 19 years. THAT SUCKS!!!!!! What about TOATL FORCE?????? What about One military, one fight?? Just another way the man is keeping down the Reservist and Guardsmen..............

| WAIT A MINUTE!! Active ANG/Reserve members on a two or three-day pass and on active duty in an overseas area for any length of time can use Space-A travel. The documents required are an ID card and active duty orders authorizing the Airman to be in the assigned overseas area. Dependent travel is not authorized until the Airman reaches age 60. The policy says once you apply for Retired Reserves (You have to give six months notice.) Then no matter what age you are 41, 50, you are eligble for the flight benefit. Just not your spouse. Here is the paperwork you need to fill out: http://www.e-publishing.af.mil/forms The reasoning behind limiting spouse flight was to allow Reserve families and NG families to relocate with their men since CONUS has limited resources. (Or thats what they said and to allow the over sixty crown more access as well. But YOU can travel my friend. Need more info, I'd be glad to share.

| Bro, I've been a loadmaster for the last 18 years....I know how Space A works. Guard and Reserves HAVE ALWAYS been able to use Space A in CONUS while their spouses have been left out until the retiree reaches age 60. The only new change now allows the spouse to fly CONUS with the retiree. The old rule limited reserve and NG spouses to ONLY OCONUS flights until this year. What we need to get rid of is the age 60 requirement. If I retired from the active Army at age 37, my wife would be eligible to fly Space A with me. But the poor schmoe Guard and Reserve folks have to be 60 to drag HH6 with them. THAT IS UNFAIR!!! ANY service member on active duty (active Guard or Reserves) and on leave or a pass can take themselves and their spouse on Space A flights. I took my wife and kids to Germany in 2003 on a C-17. Flew Space and back outta Frankfurt. Why the hell would I want to fly Space A with out my wife and kids anyways??? BTW....if you retirees do not take advantage of this perk, then you are missing out.

I agree. Wives should not have to wait until the service member is age 60, but somebody in their infinite wisdom.... I have put a bug in an ear about at least once. If you are from Gerogia, Congressman Jack Kingston (R-GA) is a sympathtic ear as is Senator Harry Reid (D-NV) Drop them a note asking them to talk with the Secretary of the Air Force who was the one who championed the current policy when it was questioned by the Senate Committee on Veterans affairs. Policy is the opinion of the few, who are consdered wiser and more knowledge based than a few congressmen and senators who just nod their heads and agree when questioned.

Might I add that like many of our other "quality of life" programs, this will go away if we don't use it.
But then again, I believe any reserve component member who has ever been mobilized involuntarily should be able to draw benefits as soon as they get their 20 year letter. After 20, it's just points.
There are two rules to success in life...Rule #1: Don't tell people everything you know.
