The road I live on dead ends into the airfield for the Springfield Air National Guard base. My house is exactly 1.5 miles from the airfield. The F-16's were slated as leaving the base per BRAC, but were saved due to the Dutch using them for training now. Last night I was leaving my house for BD class and saw a few F-16's circling overhead. As I approached the stopsign an F-16 was coming in for a landing and was in my plain site through the windshield. I wish I had the camera with me as it was beautiful. Rosy red sky with the F-16 framed in my windshield. I can never get tired of watching these birds take off and land in my backyard.

| That is always a thrill. On Long Islnad, when Grumman was in it's hayday, I would stop at Calverton and watch the Tomcats take off and land. It was an awesome sight.
All the way, sir!!!

We get to watch the new F22 Raptors flying about overhead nowadays... For many years, it was F15C's. Southside, they have all the Navy stuff. F18s mostly these days

Unlucky me, I usually just have the police chopper hovering over the neighborhood.
I lack people-skills.

| We are at the far end of the "Race-trac" for BAC and when the Airborne School does night jumps or the Rangers have a night operation we hear the roar of C-130's and C-17's almost until midnight. I still stay awake and relive too many night jumps and airborne opearations until they end their airborne operations late into the night.

| Last year we had a S-3 crash just short of the runway on approach here at NAS Jax. I was at home eating lunch when it happened and walked outside to catch sight of the smoke plume, both pilots killed. Weather that day was crappy. I knew the bird was having problems by the way it sounded. They sound wierd anyway when the pilot feathers the engine throttle to keep airspeed in check, but this one had that distictive whine associated with cavitated bearings in the engine. Haven't checked to see what the crash investigation revealed, if anything. It's a crap shoot living here, but I like to watch the Blue Angels from my roof top enclosure when they come to town every year! I just pull out the ladder, lawn chair, binoc's, and a few brewskies, and I'm set! Don't have to fight the crowds either!

WhenI worked out of Portland, OR, I loved watching the OANG F-15's that shared the airport take off and land.

I love sitting out on my deck when it is nice and warm with a cold beer and watch the F-16's and C-130's fly around my house and then hear them land and take off. The prop blast(?) on the ground makes our house shake.
