I just wanted to send a Hooah to my good friend Retired Colonel Bobby H. Freeman up in Hopkinsville Kentucky.

It is truley an honor to know and call this man a friend.  He currently serves as Honorary Regimental Commander of the 159th Aviation Brigade.  He is currently active in AUSA National Resolutions Committee, AUSA Past President for Kentucky and the Tennessee-Kentucky Chapter; American Society of Military Comptrollers; The Retired Officers’ Association; the Hopkinsville Chamber of Commerce; and Chairman, Hopkinsville-Christian County Airport Board.

Bob currently resides in Hopkinsville, Kentucky with his wife, TC, field representative for Senator Jim Bunning. The Freemans continue to devote their life to supporting the Army and its soldiers.

He served as Deputy Post Commander at Ft. Campbell during my younger years where I came to know what kind of person he really is after my fathers death in NAM in 67.  He was there for us then, and still is today! Hooah Bob.

Congrats to your friend but on the subject of AUSA I will not be a member again.  I am not going to send in dues so retired senior officers and NCOs can draw a fat paycheck to wine and dine politicians in order to promote whatever hairbrained scheme the CofS comes up with.

Damn, I hate when that happens.....guess I hit a nerve....Soooo, sounds like the AUSA has beens are a direct reflection of it's most influetial membership interests heh? WTF....got any suggestions on improving it? With a direct link to powerful folks, looks like to me it would be worthwhile to try and keep it alive instead of sweep it under the rug (hairpiece)!

Two issues made it very clear that AUSA is only a mouthpiece for the CSA.  First, the AUSA took no position on the INE black beret.  The American Legion and VFW both opposed it even though they had less of a dog in that fight.  But AUSA was unwilling to oppose the CSA.

Second, AUSA actively worked to save the Crusader program.  Imagine after 9/11 on organization that is supposed to work to improve the Army and protect soldiers spending its time and resources to save a system designed to take on the Warsaw Pact in central Europe at a time when our forces are facing a threat from terrorists and insurgents in the Middle East.

When AUSA truly looks out for Soldiers and starts fighting for the future of the Army, even if that means opposing the SecArmy and/or CofS, then I will consider becoming a member again.

Ding, ding , ding! Give that man (Barry) a kewpie doll for being on target... AUSA has long been a tool of the senior Army staff to achieve their goals rather than an organization for the service as a whole.

Thanks for the info. I was going to join, but it sounds like they have their heads so far up each others asses, they can tell what they had for breakfast. Is it really that bad? Please tell me before I flip any grip their way. I guess I just need to send it to the VFW. (beer is cheaper there, anyway )
