I am also a new member and my father was also a member of the 17th during WWII. My father died 25 years ago in a car accident so I don't know many of his stories. He seldom talked about his experiences but he did leave a few war trophies to me. A large German flag, and a few other smaller items. I have always regretted not knowing more about his experiences, more so after I served in the Army. Dad would have been 83 this year but he died at the age of 53. I turn 60 next year so I am getting a little nostalgic and realizing that if I am ever going to find out more I need to do it now.

Maybe someone with contact can help you on that front but while that simmers, what information are you interested in, we have a lot of historian types who might be able to get you unit information.

Welcome--good to have you here, enjoy the DZ

"...my religious belief teaches me to feel as safe in battle as in bed. God has fixed the time for my death. I do not concern myself about that, but to be always ready, no matter when it may overtake me." He added, after a pause, looking me full in the face: "That is the way all men should live, and then all would be equally brave" General "Stonewall" Jackson
