I am also a new member and my father was also a member of the 17th during WWII. My father died 25 years ago in a car accident so I don't know many of his stories. He seldom talked about his experiences but he did leave a few war trophies to me. A large German flag, and a few other smaller items. I have always regretted not knowing more about his experiences, more so after I served in the Army. Dad would have been 83 this year but he died at the age of 53. I turn 60 next year so I am getting a little nostalgic and realizing that if I am ever going to find out more I need to do it now.

We used to have some people hooked into the 17th association but I believe the organization finally closed its doors due to the loses. Maybe someone with contact can help you on that front but while that simmers, what information are you interested in, we have a lot of historian types who might be able to get you unit information.

"...my religious belief teaches me to feel as safe in battle as in bed. God has fixed the time for my death. I do not concern myself about that, but to be always ready, no matter when it may overtake me." He added, after a pause, looking me full in the face: "That is the way all men should live, and then all would be equally brave"
