Many of you know Don Lassen and his work for years on the Airborne newspaper 'The Static Line Magazine' but what you may not know is that his core readership of WWII and Korea troopers is quickly heading to DZ Sky6.

He is looking for more readers willing to put up the $30.00/yr to keep this paper alive. You get 12 issues for your yearly subscription.

To be blunt and honest with you, much of the paper is like this very forum, replies via mail and email with information, thanks and support of other troopers. In between these are various articles and events and items that are of interest to the airborne community.

This paper is an institution within the airborne community and Id like to see an infusion of fresh blood so that it can continue. If you are interested in getting this kind of news or just want to subscribe to help support the community then go to www.staticlinemagazine.com and get signed up. You can also donate your $30 and get your trooper buddy a subscription OR donate it and request that Don uses that payment to square away some trooper who wants it or had to make the sacrifice of his/her meds vs this years subscription.

Sound off here in this forum if you're a subscriber already or if you just signed up, Id like to find out whos helping out.

I'll be in Atlanta for the 30th Airborne Awards and I hope I see some of you PNET troopers there.

I was a subscriber when I was in the Army and began subscribing again about seven years ago.  I know Don would particularly like to have regular articles on the units and Associations.  He has space for a monthly column for the Associations and is willing to print old Troopers war stories.

Mark, I know Dale, Ogie and I will be there.  See you then.

I subscribed to the "Static Line" for many years, long, long, before I joined the Assoc in 1999.  I don't subscribe now, but I feel I have contributed my share to the newspaper over the years. I would like to see the paper continue and prosper. However, I am going to be 70 real soon, have medical problems, am on a limited and fixed income, and other things take priority. Just a simple fact of life which you are all going to face someday, if you are lucky.  Just my .02

RJ, Don has always done a pay as much as you can for a subscription.  Those of us that can try to pay extra to help cover it.

I used to where my ball cap with the big jump wings on it at work and one day a manager came up to me and said “are you airborne” and I said yes and he said his dad was Airborne, any way I gave him a copy of my static line to give to his dad. Later the dad called in tears to say thanks for the static line because in it was an add from a guy that he hadn’t talked in 30 some odd years as he thought he was killed in Nam. …… I am a Life time subscriber

When in England at a fairly large conference, Colin Powell was asked by The Archbishop of Canterbury if our plans for Iraq were just an example of Empire building by George Bush.
He answered by saying that, “Over the years, the United States has sent Many of its fine young men and women into great peril to fight for freedom Beyond our borders. The only amount of land we have ever asked for in Return is enough to bury those that did not return.” It became very quiet in the room.

Hey Barry, how are you doing, Bro. Yeah I know, Don is great about that. He even states in the Static Line and on his renewal slips, he will send copies free if you can't afford to subscribe. After my subscription ran out, Don continued to send me copies for some time, which I gave to our Assoc for members to read. But I am not a free-loader, I have always paid my way, and not about to change now. Hooah?
