I heard it on Good Morning America before work. Happened in the Straits of Hormuz (between Iran and UAE). Shallow water and way too much traffic make for a bad place to do submarine warfare. Unfortunately, that's the one place where we absolutely need to watch.

Sounds like they were running at periscope depth and didn't realize how deep the draft of the oncoming vessel was. Kind of like driving a 13' tall trailer under a bridge that only has 12' 11'' clearance.
I guess I never thought about how terrifing it must be to be onboard a nuclear reactor and feel a collision.
