I hope the Carrier doesn't spend half it's time in the shop being repaired.

Doesn't it figure that Jimmy Carter would have a ship named after him that was designed to sink.

And Jerry Ford gets a ship that isn't built yet.

Maybe Carter's Habitat For Humanity will work on the carrier.

The hippo is unpredictable and aggressive with old scars and fresh, deep wounds providing signs of daily fights that are accompanied by much bellowing, neighing and snorting.

Yep the USS Carter will not carry any torpedoes or offensive armament...instead it's Captain and crew will be trained in peaceful resolution techniques, non-violent protests, and consensus and coalition building as well as being sea-life friendly. It's trials will be monitored be a UN human rights delegation with an escort by the French.

Stand in the door!

Pfttt...fix or repair daily will be more like it!

Rumsfeld should have been paying more attention to all the kids he sent into Iraq with no body armor or up-armored Humvees, rather than ensuring his old boss and mentor got a ship named after him.

No huge fan of old Rummy. But was'nt he correct when he said you go to War with the Army you have?

This is probably going to come across as being harsh or dismissive; regardless, that doesn't dismiss the fact that he held the responsibility for ensuring readiness of this countries armed forces. Although I respected the man's positional authority, sorry, IMO he gets a big fat F for failing the services.

You may go to war with the one you have but that doesn't mean you have to continue the war with that same size Army.  In this case the war started on 9/11(really before that, but we didn't get serious about it until then) yet it is only now, five and a half years later, that we are looking to increase the size of the military to fight the war.

As for the up-armored Humvees, there is plenty of blame to go around on that one.  After Somalia, when it was demonstrated that these vehicles were vulnerable in this type of an environment, the military largely stuck its head in the sand and assumed that the war we would fight would mostly avoid built up areas with a large, hostile population.  And neither Congress or either administration made any attempt to correct this situation until we actually got into the fight.

Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you, Jesus Christ and the American GI.  One died for your soul, the other for your freedom.
