I heard a question asked recently that is definitely 'discussion worthy'.

"Do we sin because we are sinners, or are we sinners because we sin?"

Comments please!

We are sinners because of an apple.

We are given choices, and sometimes we choose wrongly.

All the way, sir!!!

Sometimes our sins are committed without thought, while others we commit knowingly.  I believe we are sinners because we sin.  We choose to sin so we should ask for forgiveness.  Especially when those sins can hurt a loved one of ours.

Uh... this should be a no brainer folks... man is inherently greedy, self absorbed, and driven by emotions. Being born in sin merely is a way of stating that we all start off as no better than animals who require guidance and effort to mature in both physical and spiritual terms. Fighting the good fight against our base nature is what it's all about.

"The degenerative and loony should never be denigrated but, rather, thanked. In their absence, the rest of you would be obliged to fill congressional seats... positions naturally unsavory to the sane and honorable."

Because nobody is perfect or we'd be the Lord and so we sin, sometimes unintentionally, other times with forethought.. the best we can do is try to keep the forethought stuff out and do our best to minimize the unintentional.

Right about choosing wrongly, but is there a little more to it than the apple?

I think Steve and Mark answered it nicely.  We, as a society want more.  We feel we deserve more.  Sometimes we sin getting to that point.  Sometimes we sin unknowingly while other sins are being done with eyes wide open.
