| In the next couple of months there will be a mail out regarding dues. The membership and dues structure for the Association has been revised. The mail out will explain the new membership categories and dues for each. I know there are several here that have paid dues. If you have already sent me you address and/or paid dues you should get the mail out. I will post it when it goes out so that anyone that doesn't get it can let me know. One other thing the mail out explains is that we are going to work on a directory of Association members. This directory will only be available to the membership and no addresses or personal info will be given out to vendors. Members will have the option of opting out of the directory, but we will be asking members to return the application filled out so we can update our own records. The next newsletter has gone to press and I will let everyone knows when it goes out.

The documents for the mailout have been sent to the printer and those on the mailing list should get the application and the letter explaining the dues structure. If you currently get the newsletter you will get the mailout. If you are not a member and want to join shoot me an e-mail with your address and I will send you the documents. One of the things we are looking at is putting together a directory of members with a listing of when and which unit of the 509th everyone served with. Also included in the letter being mailed out is the information on ordering the new Dietz print of the first combat jump by the 509th as part of Operation Torch.

| Might have missed it but, how do I become a member. I was born at JRTC 7 June 95'. Left there and went to the old 09' in Vicenza. Served while CSM Kilgore running things. Was in A co. @ Polk and C.co in Italy. Any help would be appreciated.

Text of the letter sent to members about dues:To all 509th Parachute Infantry Veterans, Families and Friends, Many years ago we had a directory of our veterans and members available. However, that directory would be extremely out of date, even if copies were still available. There have been a lot of inquiries from members about getting another directory. Enclosed with this letter is a form to be used for a new directory. Please fill it out and return it before the end of the year. If you do not wish to be listed in the directory please we would ask you to still fill it out and return it in order for the Association to better track our members. This letter and form is also your dues notice for 2007. Over the past few years our income from dues has fallen drastically although the number of newsletters has increased. We simply cannot continue to operate like this. Over the last year many of you have not only paid dues but have made donations towards the operational costs of the Association. This has been a big part of the financial recovery we have experienced. Now we need to begin taking the next steps. Over the next year our operational costs should begin to decrease as the Association gets an internet website and younger veterans begin to get the newsletter electronically. The other part is to also decrease the number of newsletters mailed to those who do not pay dues. We simply cannot run an Association on donations and sales of items. This year we have restructured our membership to better track who our members are. Along with this we have changed our dues a little. Those of you who served in the 509th PIB during World War II will be classified as Charter Members and your dues remain at $20.00 per year. Spouses and immediate family members of 509th veterans, whether deceased or living, will be classified as Legacy Members and your dues are also $20.00 per year. Veterans of the 509th since 1963, regardless of posting, will be classified as Regular Members and dues are $25.00 per year. All others will be Associate Members and dues will also be $25.00 Rest assured that if you cannot afford dues your newsletter will not be discontinued. If you are in that situation please note it on the form. But it is important that our income from dues more accurately reflects the cost of our sending out the newsletter. We hope you understand the position we are in and look forward to continuing our Association with you. Sincerely, The Officers of the 509th Parachute Infantry Association Application attached.
