| Good points, all. My advice is similar. Keep your airborne pride in the way you look and conduct yourself. If local practices are different than trained procedures, remember the training, but conform to the local lay of the land. This by the way, is using the same initiative that yo learned in the military. You need to survive in your enviroment. To this day, I still check my gig line and obey my last command first. And that's 40+ years out of service. You have to watch your partner's back, regardless of size, shape, or temperment. If you don't, you will never be accepted by the group at large. Let the Police force set the standard, and you surpass it. This is a personal thing, not something you flaunt. If your fellow officers comment on your appearance, don't boast about it. Just say the it's a personal thing. If they try to get you into a discussion on your "350" pound partner, don't fall the the bait. They know she is too heavy to carry her load. But, if you, the newbie, get into the discussion, it surely get back to her. You can actually use that to your advantage by telling her that her peers are making comments. You can also offer (gently) that because of your Airborne knowledge of PT, you can help her if she wants. Civilains that have not "walked the walk" in the Airborne, will NEVER fully undersatnd our discipline. They will shy away from it, even while they pay it lip service. Just my thoughts, Ted
All the way, sir!!!

Duck you are in the land of Bizarro where up is down and fat is fit and stupid is smart...ie: Communications/Dispatch. These are the people who hold the fate of patrol officers in their hands...the ones that are good check on you when you are out on a call and haven't checked in after a few minutes..the bad ones bitch at you for being out of zone after they sent you to caver a call. Screw ole fat pants and keep your standards high, soon you will be a real police and not have to worry about Miss fat pants and her donut licking ways. Stay strong bro, real professionals recognize excellance and the others...well they arn't worth a second thought.
Stand in the door!
