Not all actors are liberal asswipes.  Recently Denzel Washington [and family] visited some OIF WIA soldiers [some burn victims] at Brooks Army Medical Center [BAMC], San Antonio, Texas.  He also toured the "Fisher Houses"...places were family of soldiers can stay at no or little cost to them while their soldier is being treated.  Denzel was told they needed more Fisher Houses.  He asked how $much$ it would cost to build another one.  He pulled out his check book and wrote a check for the FULL AMOUNT.

What do you think of that?

Some truth to that.

Actor Denzel Washington Spontaneously Paid for the Construction of a "Fisher House" During a Visit to Brooke Army Medical Center-Fiction! But He Came Through Later!

bulletSummary of the eRumor
The eRumor describes a visit by actor Denzel Washington to "Brookes" Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas.
He saw the buildings known as "Fisher House," where families of hospitalized soldiers can say for little or no charge while visiting.
He is described as having asked how much it costs to build one, pulled out his checkbook, and wrote a check for the full amount.

bulletThe Truth
Denzel Washington did make a visit to the Brooke (not Brookes) Army Medical Center (BAMC) in San Antonio, Texas, in December, 2004.
Among other things, he participated in a ceremony awarding Purple Hearts to three soldiers and visited several others.

He also toured the Fisher House facilities there, was impressed with what they were doing, and did indicate a desire to support it.
An eRumor got started that he dramatically pulled out his checkbook on the spot and wrote a check for the cost of building an entire house, which was not true.
Fisher House says the confusion may have come when an announcement was made later in that a new $1-million facility was going to be built.
It was at the same time as a mention that Denzel Washington had pledged a donation to Fisher House.
Four months later, however, he came through "in a big way", according to the folks at Fisher House.
They won't disclose the amount of his gift, but Fisher House spokesman James Weiskopf says it's one of the largest in the organization's history and that Denzel Washington has agreed to serve on the Fisher House board of trustees.

Fisher House is a program that provides special housing at each of the Army's major medical centers for the families of soldiers who are receiving medical treatment, often from being wounded on duty.
Fisher house is either a facility or a group of facilities where family members can stay for no cost or reduced cost, which helps ease the burden of possibly having made a long and expensive trip to be by the bedside of a family member and to make it possible for even low income families to be able to stay close by.

A real example of the eRumor as it has appeared on the Internet:

AM Subject: Denzel Washington

I just received this from Ft.

Hood, Texas, where our son's family is stationed while he is deployed in Iraq. Denzel Washington was visiting BAMC (Brookes Army Medical Center, in San Antonio, Texas) the other day. This is where soldiers that have been evac'd from Germany come to be hospitalized in the States. They have buildings there called Fisher Houses. The Fisher House is a hotel that soldier's families can stay at, for little or no charge, while their soldier is staying in the hospital. BAMC has quite a few of these houses on base, but as you can imagine, they are almost filled to the brim most of the time. While Denzel Washington was visiting BAMC, they gave him a tour of one of the Fisher Houses. He asked how much one of them would cost to build. He got his check book out and wrote a check out for the full amount right there on the spot.

The soldiers overseas were amazed to hear this story and want to get the word out to the American public, because it warmed their hearts to hear it. I hope you will spread this story.

There you go, a great gesture by a sincere actor blown somewhat out of proportion by those that should be getting it right.  I don't like being fooled either, but it just goes to show you a even a good human interest story with all the best intentions can be twisted a bit to warp the facts.

Well the info I got from an email...I guess now I have to question ALL the emails I get.  Question is now did he or did he not write a check and what did he write it for?

RR,

According to the above posting, he did end up contributing to the new building, just at a later time and for an "undisclosed amount."  He did not do it then and there, but he did contribute later on.  It was a good gesture blown out of proportion.

When in doubt, pull up Snopes or www.truthorfiction.com.  The Denzel Washington one has been around the email system for a couple of years now.

SMSB & Kyros:

I checked out the time line and found it very interesting.  However, neither my home or work PC's can open the maps.  I will do further checking.

I believe we all started if Africa, dark skinned.  I further believe that we migrated and populated as we moved.  Some would stay, and the adventurous moved futher into the unknown.  Now, why did we migrate: Food, avoid predateors, avoid parasites, continantal drift, knowledge of the unknown.

I have read some facinating books from many different disciplines (including religious).

One eye openner was "Parasite Rex".  It is the study of the impact of parasites on fauna, flora, and today's living beings.

One of you asked previously "so why do we need science?".  The answer is that man needs the physical to support the spiritual.

Any thoughts,

Ted

All the way, sir!!!

I'm guessing the maps and some images don't open because the link to their source has been broken for some reason; either it has been removed or a computer setting won't allow the cross over to another server. Just a guess though.

I agree that the physical is needed to support the spiritual; so, why haven't we been able to explain the existence of the spiritual using science?  Or have we, and we just don't recognize it!  Is this part of the mystery God has planned for us?  After all, isn't it God's science in the first place? Just a thought...
