RayLewis (9/14/2006) Of course, this is "peacetime" or rear in nature. In the sandbox, or any other future battlefield, even the support personnel need to be infantry soldiers first, and then masters of their specific MOS second. When it comes time to fix bayonets and take on Hadji while outnumbered 6-to-2, the criteria for infantry unit performance gets reduced to a very base level. And while I don't doubt their conviction and dedication and patriotism for a second, will your average female soldier be able to kick 3 suicidal, extremist asses like a genetically stronger, faster, and bigger male soldier?Ray, first, support soldiers need to be riflemen first but not necessarily infantry first. It is still the primary job of the infantry to close with and destroy the enemy. Second, this is an added company in an infantry battalion and does not diminish the combat power of the battalion. I can't speak to the discussion on the mentoring but from the aspect of the infantry(or armor or cavalry) battalion to accomplish the mission I see no problem with this.

Look on the bright side of women in combat. Think of how insane the Musl!m extremists will go when they hear that females are fighting. Women! With their faces uncovered! In pants! The only thing that would drive them any crazier would be if the ladies were gay! Their heads might explode like in "Mars Attacks!"
I lack people-skills.

| If she is in a combat battalion, at some point the person filling her slot will have to sep up. If her unit is taking incoming rounds, who is going to be worried about regulations stating females shouldn't be in combat. I feel the same way about this subject as I did when I heard that lawyers were going to be in lead companies goint into Iraq. My thoughts were "what are they going to do tell the guy firing at them, read him his rights????" Yeah, he's got a right, the right to die. Just my thoughts, Ted
All the way, sir!!!

No making fun of aliens now........I...sniffle...lost my uncle Blurgsra in that movie...family picnics just aren't the same without him getting drunk and talking about blasting Vikings with his first death-ray when he was just a wee lad...

The female 1SG is squared away and she will do a great job over here.ij1, good to have your perspective on this since you are serving in the unit now. If she is an airborne 1SG she is more than likely squared away.

SMSB (9/14/2006) BS6, if you don't mind me asking, has your perspective changed any on what appeals to you about the Army since you've joined? Not really, I think what has happened is that I know more of what I don't like, based on where I've been. It just doesn't seem right to not be in a FORSCOM, deployable unit. Recruiting totally sucked, my AC/RC assignment was good in many ways, but it wasn't the same in terms of cohesion. I like living in a military community, and I like it when my unit is a bigger part of daily life, and not just where you are during the duty day.

Thanks for the insite - I have heard that AC/RC is one of the Army's best kept secrets for providing a chance to command since commanding in CSL is limited. WY6! AATW! Steve
