| B4B, I think it can also be a matter of them realizing they are in a cult and seeking help. Not always you are going to have someone come to your rescue. If you are a believer you can always ask the Lord for deliverance. From stories I heard this week on TV about FLDS some women asked the Lord but they also took action on their part grabbed their children and left the cult forever. The Lord was probably right there with them to guide them to safety. Good for them. DTW, "Man misses the point about the message and instead seeks selfish power." Right on...I also think these preachers prey on people with low self esteems and weak family backgrounds. In the case of FLDS it is also a racist cult and that also draws in a certain type of POS individuals (members). They end up getting what they deserve. skypilot, "...are generally weak spirited people..." You are right about that and maybe people like that need to be in cults because they fit in with other weak and decieved people (?). What I have not heard so far is that these 'cults' are part of the great deceiver's plan to keep many souls for himself. Thats the sad part. Deceived people look to deceive others. Same way people who are on the right track want to share salvation. What gets me is that these asswipes build themselves to be gods in the eyes of their deceived followers and others...then you see the POS individual standing in front of a judge and he is NOTHING.

| New Christians are especially susceptible to cult leaders, thus once again the importance of older, more mature believers being involved in the lives of new Christians and discipling them. It is one thing to understand the problem, which is necessary, another to suggest solutions (would Christ put a bullet in anybody's head?), and another to be part of helping people get out of cults. When we, as believers, are living our lives as directed and guided by the Holy Spirit within us, eager to share the truth of the Gospel of Christ, we can be an effective part of the solution. We can help Christians grow, we can pray for loved ones involved in cults or false religions, among other things. There are always people who are searching for real truth and need only to be shown the Christ of the Bible for the process of salvation to begin.

| Pastors or preachers fill an important role in Gods plan if they truly place the Son and the Father first and are always guided by the Holy Spirit. The minute that does not happen they become false prophets. The Bible itself is an anti-deception message but people are always expecting for someone on a pulpit to read it or interpret it for them. A pastor can guide us regarding the Word and on life as a believer but we also have to do some Bible reading and interpreting ourselves. Spending just an hour or two on the Bible per week might not do it. II Timothy 3: 16 & 17 says - All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works. For example...if the followers of FLDS just read and understood Galatians 5: 16 - 21 they would not be in that cult. But they allow for Jeffs and other preachers there to do all Bible interpretation for them and that is why they live deceived by cult leaders who are deceived themselves and who fulfill their selfish/earthly desires by keeping many others blind. Sounds a lot like the prince of darkness himself...doesn't it? In Mathew 4: 1 - 11, he tried to use the very word of the Father against Jesus and tried to deceive Him into following and serving him. We need to do a lot of reading on our own and we have to pray for understanding when we do. If we don't we'll fall for anything someone tries to sell us. That includes some 'congregations' out there. The Bible calls us to congregate but it also calls for us to spend a lot of personal time with our Creator. That will also inoculate us against deception.

Bingo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Reading for oneself is HUGE! And yes, people want someone (pastor, teacher, etc) to keep them straight when they need read the Bible for themselves! The same Holy Spirit is at work in the heart of every believer to illuminate scripture. You might call it cutting out the middle man. I sincerely believe in pastors, teachers and evangelists, etc. as needed positions in God's church, but sadly we tend to rely on them too much, if not entirely, when we chould be in the book for ourselves. And the enemy sits backs and chuckles.

The danger comes when we as preachers become enamored with ourselves and don't connect with others and truely connect with the Word. It is easy to start getting overly impressed with ourselves, especially in cultures or churches that place pastors and teachers on a very high pedestal. All of us need those who surround us to keep us in check and keep checking on us.

"...my religious belief teaches me to feel as safe in battle as in bed. God has fixed the time for my death. I do not concern myself about that, but to be always ready, no matter when it may overtake me." He added, after a pause, looking me full in the face: "That is the way all men should live, and then all would be equally brave" General "Stonewall" Jackson

Skypilot, must we always hear the pinging of the hammer against the nail when you speak? Keep it up.

| What gets me is that Christians still don't get this. Jesus not only took on the devil but he also had to take on the Sadduces, Pharisees, and Scribes [the religious establisment...in the region in which He taught during His time on earth]. He was a Jew and they were too. However, they rejected the teachings of thier own Savior and failed to see Him for who He was even when they were marveled by His ministry. They also envied His ministry and that is why they went after Him. A few Pharisees understood who He was but they were still powerless against a religious establishment that placed their traditions above everything else...they saw the Mosaic Law and their traditions as binding [Lk 18: 9 - 14]. Many preachers in our day are more like the Pharisees and less like their Savior. My pastor when he begins his sermons starts off with "Lord use me as your vessel and let it be you and your word speaking and not me." He also constantly encourages us to study His word and to spend private time in prayer.

I like your pastor's prayer! Perhaps we should earnestly pray for a genuine revival in our churches? I don't mean a few days 'advertised' as 'revival meetings', but genuine revival.
