I am a former 3/325 infantryman, (95-99, Bragg).

I am looking for anyone who can verify the most outlandish story concerning Ranger Regiment personnel in Vicenza, Italy.

I have a brother-in-law who has sworn that he was assigned to 2nd Ranger Battalion but was part of a detachment in Vicenza. This would have been right before Desert Storm in '91. This is where the story gets hokey. First, he says he entered as a cook, but since units were gearing up for the impending conflict, Ranger liasons were scouting out anyone who could shoot well. He did and was inadvertently selected. After getting orders for Europe (still not airborne qualified yet) he gets sent to Vicenza. From there, he goes back to Germany for an abbrieviated airborne school followed by an even more abbrievieated RIP/Ranger School. (It is hard to say because the individual seems to shift in and out on details; hence, the inquiry). All this is taking place while he is a buck private. Once he gets back from his training, he gets deployed with the rest of the Vicenza units. They go to Turkey where he says he linked up with the rest of his Bn (however, all public documentation concerning Ranger history states that 1st RGR Bn deployed in support of that mission.)

Is there anyone out there who was stationed in Vicenza during 1990-93 who can give me some truth as to this?

First, how about popping over to in-processing and posting an introduction and then fill out your Bio in your profile. Thanks!

Your brother-in-law is full of it.  I had a buddy that went in during March of 1990 and was in RIP by July(he washed out due to a bad knee).  First, the 75th had no shortage of people.  They did not have to go out and beg recruits to volunteer.  Second, if necessary they could have found Airborne qualified soldiers in non-deployed units, the 509th, the 1-501st, the 10th Mountain, the 7th ID or the 25th ID should have been able to supply any shortages of Airborne personnel.  That's not mentioning the new guys coming out of BAC that could have been diverted if there was a critical need.  I call BS.

The Poser Alarm in my head went off too, when I started reading about this POS and his "story"; armed with the Truth now why don't you call him out in public bro and watch the results.

I'm Surprised Panama's still sea level, after all the Push Ups I did down there.
