First let me thank all the people out there who are giving out this advice and all the other info for those troopers out in cyber land.

Now for the questions... I am a prior service 11b1p.  I joined the Guard about 6 months ago but I want to go back Active.  I was under the impression that prior service only had a choice of duty station, no bonus.  That's fine, they can keep the cash as long as I get to choose where I go.  I want the 25th in Hawaii.  Yes I know it's legland but it's fricking Hawaii.  Plus they have a L.R.S.D. that jumps.  He said Hawaii isn't an option but Bragg might be.  Is he blowing smoke and should I wait and tell him to call me when Hawaii opens up or is this really my option?

Thanks again for the time.  I, and  know others, appreciate it.

MIke

The Army will let you back in; you might have to take a pay-cut and you might get duty station of choice; it's all up to Human Resources Command.  First, you'll have to get a Conditional Laetter of Release signed by your CO and normally they want you in for a year before they'll sign it.  After that, you'll be given an offer by HRC and you'll get six days to make a decision.  Hawaii, might get it so good luck.  LRSD in Hawaii:  probably not but you knever know.  I know the 1SG over there; he was my old TL.  Besides, they may be doing the disbanding thing soon.  Anyway brother, good luck; Hawaii isn't bad anyway, legs or not, the 25th is a good bunch of troops and they train hard, besides dude... you'll be in Hawaii.  Don't rule out the other branches either; I was in the Army, I'm Air Force now.  Believe it or not, the AF is still the military it's different though but that's a long story.  Most of the rumors about the AF (you know 1st name basis; Air Conditioning; laid back; no PT) turned out total BS, yeah, we even have jump units; Ranger school slots; Pathfinder school slots, blah, blah, blah.  Anyway, just make sure you get what you want brother because once you sign that dotted line; well you know the rest.  Again, good luck.

Like Q said, you'll have to get a letter of release. I was on Recruiting duty a few years ago but I know getting that letter of release, at least were I was, was hard to get. You will be considered PS and what ever they have is what you get. I also agree with Q, look at other branches. Also keep in mind that being PS you may not be able to get in right away because they dont have slots. That goes for all the branches. I work with some AF and Navy guys and sometimes I wish I had went Navy or AF.

Good Luck

The 25th's LRSD is on jump status.  However, I think the Army is doing away with LRS units again as part of the transformation.  Most guys here that want to go to Bragg are usually told that it's near impossible, so if your guy is saying Bragg I would jump at it.

Be very careful.  Get your assignment in writing before you sign.  Things have a way of changing between when the pen is put out and your signature ends.  Many prior service have been lured back in by the promise of "Hawaii" or whatever then wind up in West Bumfuck looking for a date with a camel.  Human Resources Command is slick.

Be careful I bet that "Needs of the Army" line still exists so like crown and the other posters advisded you better "get it in writing" before you sign your name to the dotted line so to speak bro or the Green Weenie will come reaching out for you.

I'm Surprised Panama's still sea level, after all the Push Ups I did down there.
