Chip (4/6/2007)
Sorry it took so long to post, but do any you guys remember these old 1/509th ABCT Association cards. I have been carrying this one since my ETS in November 1980. Contact Barry Simpson if you want to join the current 1/509th Parachute Infantry Association and keep the unit cameraderie alive. Chip
I still have mine also.
Outta all the places I've been.....this is one of'emIf you don't stand behind our troops, PLEASE....feel free to stand in front of them! De Oppresso Liber

ranger509 (1/14/2009)
This is CSM(R) Bill Houston. A Co 2-509 72-73. Co B 509th ABCT Vicenza 73-75. The armorer's name was SSG Gary Grant. I worked as his assistant for about 3 months. Also worked with Andy in the MOPO for a while untill I changed to 11B. I rember our 1SG was 1SG Black. I thought he was the worlds smallest RANGER until I met SSG Maxium, my TAC, at the SFQC in Jan 78. Anyway, I also trained in Wiesbaden and deployed with the the new battalion to Vicenza. While in A 509th ABCT, SSG Smith was my PSG and 2lt Tom Metz was my PLT LDR. I also remember LTC Golden BC and CPT Smoking Joe Spencer, B Co. CDR. I also did a lot of skydiving around Italy with Sherm Hawkins and the bunch. Just logging on and finding you old farts has done my heart good. I am currently a JROTC instructor at Starkville HS, Starkville, MS. If any of you ever get this way email me. Mi casa es su casa. ranger5sf@yahoo.com Ranger, I was in B Company but arrived in Vicenza in 1978. Welcome.

| Francis Stephen Bridges Unfortunately that's the only copies that I have. From 71 - 72 I was the BN AMMO NCO for the 1st BN. If I remember correctly the clinic was in the 2nd BN AO. If you need info on the 509th PIA contact 509trooper here on Pnet he can square you away with that. Did you move with the 509th to Italy in 73?

Hooah All you 09er's. I was with the 509th ABCT in Vicenza, Italy from 1979-1981. Some of the best years of my life in the 10 years of service were with the 509th.

| Hey Regular Joe, Came across your post and it looks like we were at Lee Barracks about the same time, 10/67 to 10/70 for me. I was a 2/509 medic and was usually attached to B 2/509 on FTX's, etc., and did range and DZ coverage for the Bn, gave you your shots, etc. Your post showed both E-6 and O-5 ranks. ROTC or OCS? I ETS's from the 82nd after 2/509, did ROTC and was commissioned ADA in 1977 and medically retired '86. Saltydoug Doug Mears demears@tustinstudios.com
