BF, I think you went way over board on this last response so I'm not even going to continue this...and you are still wrong about my feelings regarding the x-ray tech in question.  You need to remove that chip off your shoulder...and BTW what the f__k do you know about what is on my DD214s (or 201) and what isn't!?

Back in 1988 when I went to RS as an 11B1P I needed to complete the school to remain in the regiment.  The scroll was a way of life for me and my Ranger brethern then.  That tech ("2-month wonder") went back to his technician whites and cushy hospital job (if he would have not completed it...big deal...still would have kept his REMF job).

After getting tabbed I went back to regiment life, jumping out of planes, fastroping out of helos, and living in the field.  You figure it out.

Sorry Bro, but I was just returning fire...we can agree to disagree.  Sometimes (most times) I talk too much.  My point was (and is) that we all have experiences we draw from when we express our opinions.

To end this and remove alledged chip from my shoulder I will delete the post.

Do you listen to yourself when you talk; or do you just fade in and out?

I will delete the post.

Why?  Did not you just say you are entitled to an opinion?  Why would you delete a post because of something I said?

I did that because I respect you and did not want to cause harm.  You eluded to the fact that I had been overboard in my response to you...Maybe I was...Either way, the discussion was "going South" and I live there M-F.  Though I enjoy a good fight as much as the next guy, I would rather have this as a place where I can come to get away from that stuff.  As a former Customs Officer, I would think you understand that.

Just to finalize, we both agree it was a job well done by the X-ray dude, but we disagree about the rational and/or worth of having a RS spot used by someone with a non-combat arms MOS; and such school slots should be reserved, specifically for soldiers from the 11 series....How does that sound?

Better go, I have a new gun to name and to clean.  Gotta love those Kimbers...

Do you listen to yourself when you talk; or do you just fade in and out?

How about this?

I am an IOBC graduate, graduated on 20JAN. If I'm lucky, I'll get to go to Ranger School in May ... there are people in my company who will definately not be going until June, some probably not until July. There are guys here who graduated in November but still haven't gone.

Why? Because IOBC classes have 150+ LT's but roughly 50 Ranger slots per class.

So that's why X-ray techs don't need slots. This isn't an arbitrary "slots are being taken away from deserving guys, maybe" argument ... there is a war going on and infantry platoon leaders are here sitting on their asses.

So in an abstract sense, yea, great. But I'm watching guys graduate Ordnance OBC get Ranger slots two weeks after graduation and watching what's essentially a non-deployable, non-bat, pogue MOS get a slot ... while Infantry second lieutenants are busy raking leaves and moving wall lockers.

AlexiF,

Went through IOBC in 2003 before my OIF tour.  Was already tabbed when I negotiated the basic course but I understand what you mean.  Another good example of why x-ray techs and other REMF types don't need to go.  If you want to go to RS you should have joined combat arms.  The x-ray tech in question deserves a 'kudos' for not quitting and accomplishing something.

Hell I'mn happy for the guy,I'mn sorry but I would much rather see the Army send someone that will for sure need the school than someone that has a snowballs chance in hell of needing it like a x-ray tech.BF I also served in the late 70's and 80's and tried to go to RS with no luck, but like you said ,it was a hard school to get .I guess things have changed a little

You got that right Mike. Back in our day the chance of a division trooper getting a Ranger School slot was a big fat ZERO

Like many on this thread have alread said about the X-Ray Tech "Congrats" on earning the Ranger Tab; now here's my view on this Ranger School is a leadership school for Light Infantry and Combat Arms Soldiers not REMF's, and should be kept be that way simple.

I cannot invision this guy running patrols through the corridors of the hospital back in Fort Wherever on a regular basis with his stellar crew, about the only way this whole mess makes any sense is perhaps hopefully he took this school as part of a reenlistment deal as part of him reclassing in to perhaps what was said earlier the 18 series.

They are also good for finding new fishing holes when they wander off azimuth into uncharted parts of the training area.
