TORCH03 (2/24/2006)
JR, I have worked with alot of CCT members that had Master Wings. Blue Falcon, I just want to know how these AF types not assigned to the Duece/Ranger Regiment get there BN Mass Tac's in???? I guess to them more than one person = a Mass Tac? Matt Most ST guys are REQUIRED to attend jumpmaster school for upgrade training. Those that currently aren't required, will be in the near future. Why the hell you asking Blue Falcon about AF guys doing Mass Tac jumps? Like that muldoon would know...
OK - I'll tell ya - There is no requirement in the USAF to do Mass Tac jumps for advanced wings. The requirement is for Mass Tac -OR- Operational jumps. AF jumpers do tons of operational jumps, as do Army SF types. Operational jumps are defined as jumps in conjunction with ongoing operations on the ground following the jump and they are usually conducted as part of large exercises. But AF jumpers also do Mass Tac jumps quite frequently with the XVIII Airborne Corps/82nd Airborne/101st Airborne/173rd Airborne Assault CPs, as well as all the Ranger and Airborne Battalions. One interesting thing, though - The USAF has stuck to the original Army requirements for advanced wings - 7 primary jumpmaster jumps for Senior and 15 primary jumpmaster jumps for Master. SO - Not only are there fewer Master Blasters in the USAF, it's harder for us THEM (forgot where I was, momentarily!) to earn the badge. One more thought - MFF jumps don't count toward your regular wings in the USAF. Oh yeah, before I forget:

So....the AF still sucks...right? Just wanted to be on the same page as everybody else.... As for jump qualified AF types, I qualified quite a few young AF ladies durning those 3 day weekend trips to Aviano....
Do you listen to yourself when you talk; or do you just fade in and out?

So....the AF still sucks...right? Just wanted to be on the same page as everybody else.... No, it doesn't suck. But most AF types are freakin' WEAK. The only exception are the Battlefield Airmen and some others scattered throughout the AF who should just wise up and join the Army!As for jump qualified AF types, I qualified quite a few young AF ladies durning those 3 day weekend trips to Aviano....

| Just green with envy bro....Those AF operators that worked with us were friggin high-speed and low-drag. We were pissed because they would always get the cool gear YEARS before us, and the guys in Vicenza always got it before the rest of the Army!
I agree about most of the AF types though...that is why we Paratroopers always got a "warm" reception by the AF girls...they were finally happy to have some "bad boys" around that were not trying to get their colors done or check on a girls feelings...

Hey Pathfinders.... "Fat Daddy" ...first of Kevin. He and "Preacher" Keith took me under their wings and feed me all the responsibility I could handle as a SPC. Served from 1993-1995

One of my current instructors (aka Jesus) was with the Pathfinder Det at Fort Campbell in the early 90's. If any of you think you may have served with him, I can PM you his name if you ask.

| I will do this again in the Reunions section, but all 101st Pathfinders take note: THERE IS A PATHFINDER REUNION SET FOR 16 - 18 AUG 2007 at Ft. Campbell. ALL 101st Airborne Division Pathfinders are expected to attend.

Regarding the wear of jump wings in the AF, those training to become CCT, pararescue, etc., go through Fort Benning. Many years ago the AF Academy in Colorado started awarding jump wings for completion of its sport parachute free-fall (not HALO) course. Theirs is a course more attuned to what someone bailing out of a broken airplane must do, rather than preparing someone to serve in an Airborne unit. The proliferation of jump wings from this source is so great in the AF that jump wings are referred to as the "Air Academy frat badge." If you see an AF officer wearing jump wings and he is not now or never has been in a jump unit, this is probably where he got his wings. (Some go to Benning as Academy or ROTC cadets, but the Academy is the main source.) Don't expect this to ever change because most senior AF officers wearing jump wings got them from their time at the Academy. They look on their course as being superior to Fort Benning because it doesn't concentrate on physical fitness (clearly a grunt activityin their opinion) and goes beyond static line jumps by doing only free-fall. I do not agree with this at all, but I don't make the rules for the AF.
An earlier poster mentioned the physical weakness of AF personnel. This is true in general, but for those in CCT, pararescue, etc., the path is very long and hard. I believe the current pass rate for those starting the long CCT training track is about 5%, and about the same for pararescuemen. Those who make it to the end are quite good. Naturally, the rest of the AF looks upon them as being severely out of place.
