Haven't been on here in a while.  But recently something has been brought to my attention and I'm researching it and need some guidance.

Situation is this:

I went ROTC and receieved a commission.  They placed me in the Army Reserve.  Me being a big dummy sought Active component and got it, not knowing what the AR or ANG had to offer.  I got it and am now in OBC at Fort Wood.  It has come to my attention while being powerpointed to death that Civil Support Teams and more specialized stuff was out there for Chemical Officers.  I also learned of the AGR program, which had I known before would have went that option but they don't exactly explain that type of stuff to us in ROTC.

So I was told that I can't go from active to guard.  Which I understand.  BUT I'm trying to see if there's anything out there that prevents me from going Active Duty to Active Guard (AGR).  The point being that if I'm active I have to be staff at the BGE level, if I went the other route I'd be down in the PL/CO level doing more missions that deal directly with what I'm being trained for now.

Either way I get what I want, I just want a really cool job since the Active Component doesn't use Chem officers all that well and on top of that the majority of the BIDS/Recon/Decon units are Guard or reserve, something else I wasn't aware of until I got here.

I googled regs but the AR 135-18 doesn't really say if I'm disqualified from AGR.  I'm wondering if its something that will require a waiver and a lot of favors.  When I talked to a GA guard recruiter they told me they weren't allowed to touch me.  But didn't really give an AR to support that.  My best guess is that it's a lot of paperwork on their part and on one wants to touch that issue.  I would just like to see for myself.

Any help in educating and providing direction would be much appreciated.
