OK, so I am old, and could have been retired sometime last year, if I had kept my head was screwed on straight... and I have at least one more (hopefully the last) operation to repair some plumbing (resisting all efforts of the various VA personnel to get me to put in for at least 0% non-svc connected)... and I have been out for ummm..... over 16 years... I still want to get back in, and JUMP, if at all possible...

ARNG is the likely target service.. but I'll go USAR if I can get a 'better' deal..

So, my questions are, for any recruiter out there who would care to respond, provided I can pass physical per AR 40-501...

1. Is my old ASVAB still valid? Or, will I be retaking it? (115-125 line scores)

2. Can I get in passing tape on DA Form 5500-R? (Age 38/39, Weight 312#, Height 69" Abdomen 42" Neck 19.5" = A-N Factor 103.39 - Height Factor 79.40 = 23.99%BF) (Abdomen was 34" before the problems, will eventually get there again, but I don't want to have to wait to sign up) Or do I have to make weight? (184#)

3. I can assume I will be doing BASIC all over again.. but will I have to be an E-1 all over, or will I retain old rank? Guess the answers here are ARNG/Reserve specific.. (no problem, but it just means I'll have to wait longer till E-5 and an age waiver for BAT)

4. I want to go 11B, but could I skirt the age waiver for BAT by signing up for something like 37F or 92R? I'd really rather go fresh from (re)IET as part of my package, since the old DA4187 request route never worked out for me last time, but I know I am too old otherwise...

[ We have 1-161ST INF and SOD-PAC close by at CP Murray (Ft Lewis), and 19th SFG down the road in Buckley, so those three jobs would most likely be available here.. and I do like the idea of an NG job with jump status, but if I have to sit it out and wait and make a tour or two to drop weight/gain rank for age waiver, then that is what I have to do, the local CAV/AR have already made their OEF/OIFrotations for the next 5 years or so, so I want to avoid them.. ]

5. What’s this I hear about a ARNG Airborne School in Utah? Any weasel room available here?

I'll answer the questions that I know. Yes you will have to retake ASVAB. They are good for 2yrs I think it is. As for the height and weight standards, go to any search engine and type in Army height and weight standards. That should point you in the right direction. Going by your profile your 34. If I remember correctly they will subtract the active duty time from your age. They may or may not take rank but you will more than likely have to go through Basic again. Your best bet is to go talk to a Reserve Recruiter. Hope this helps somewhat. Good luck.

Good Luck,

You will need to lose weight for ARNG. If you go this route you will not have to redo basic. However you will have to take the ASVAB over and a MEPS physical. what was your rank at discharge? As for MEPS keep your mouth shut unless you have surgical scars and good luck

I was SPC think I'll keep it?

So even though I did BASIC 21 years ago and got out 17 years ago, I WON'T have to do BASIC again?

So if I go Infantry they'll just slip me into the middle of a class somewhere, sometime, or send me to a NG special class somewhere, or OJT or what?

Argh, ASVAB, oh well, at least this time I won't be hung over... Physical? Got some nice big scars which will mean I ain't gonna do well in body building contests .. but I don't think the army will mind much..

About the weight, will I have to make TABLE WEIGHT (184#) for my height? Or do you guys have a different TAPE TEST? Because even with my messed up hernia (about the size of a slightly deflated basket ball, I am right at the max for TAPE (23.99%).(But I am leaner than that, just have to include the top of the hernia in the measurement which throws it high, and it will be gone soon.) Or do you use the same test with a different percentage? (20%/18%/other)?? Or is it the old test with the wristbone measurement? (9.25"). I'll do whatever it takes to make whatever I have to make, but much lower than 270# and I'll be trying to loose muscle mass which is tough..

Thanks for the input.
