| Black Flag, You have to remember that was 1989. There have been many changes there since then. I know a lot of squared away guys over there and a lot of duds. But I think there are more squared away ones than there are shit birds. That is one of the reasons that all company commanders now have to have a tour as a Company Commander in another unit. Most of them come from Bragg, Campbell, and Alaska. They have started to act like the real Army since then. Since they deployed B Co to Africa they have started working on more and more field time and being proficient in their jobs.

| dwerwin, so you can tell from my posts that I still harbor a little animosity towards "SGT Lost" then? I came up with this conclusion, probably the only reason why he asked for assignment to Panama at that time was the probability of getting his CIB for his fruit salad/badge collection; and you got to give it to him he got his wish thanks to Operation "Just Cause." So the Old Guard is actually being used for deployments now, I did not know that; well of course the Army has used my last unit the 1/509th from JRTC in Iraq to fight the War on Terrorism so I'm not suprised with them using units that never were used before. One thing is good at least you say that the Old Guard is getting more field time now, which is good for any Infantry unit I always hated garrison time myself, I liked spending time out in the jungle. I don't think I would have made it in the Old Guard I was a Field Soldier not a "Garatrooper" like "SGT Lost" was with all his pretty badges and shiny this and that accomplised nothing for him out in the jungle even though they said he "knew" all this Hooah stuff; it just proved to us that he was nothing but a petty badge finder from that unit who didn't know jack shit out in the field when it came to soldiering. There's my late evening .02 without coffee on this can you tell....
I'm Surprised Panama's still sea level, after all the Push Ups I did down there.

| LOL! I was not a garrison soldier and I stuck out like a sore thumb at Ft Myer and Ft mcNair. The majority of MP's that were there had never deployed so I was looked at like I didn't belong. Half of the uniforms and boots hat I had I couldn't wear in that environment.

| dwerwin, wasn't your favorite line the one, "there's no such thing as Field Uniforms." Oh, I hate to tell you I had sets of both field and garrison uniforms in my wall lockers in all of my rooms and none of my SQD LDR's or Team LDR's seemed to have a problem with it. The NCO's that did were never from my chain of command anyways and were pricks anyways; and besides I it didn't matter anyways since I was such a good soldier out in the field who knew the "deal" they didn't mess with me. I guess it paid to be the LT's RTO in my first PLT, though I didn't play that card I just knew my shit and didn't play their reindeer games at B 5/87th. Then when at C 1/508th as a point man we had the same deal over there, hell we were in the same Brigade I guess that same mentality would prevail well, actually it's Army wide. Hell, I even remember there were guys who would go to the jungle wearing starched jungle fatigues and spit shined jungle boots on jumps now talk about stupid, cause that junk was uncomfortable as you were going to get not too mention HOTTER THAN,OH NEVER MIND. I guess I liked to be comforable when I was in both the field and in garrison, though yes I did look presentable and rise to the ranks without ever getting busted for one of those uniform "violations" that get on all our nerves. Hell, at least as an NCO at JRTC we didn't have to play by those games there; or at least we didn't down in SCOUTS when I was there. I guess we played by our own rules in SCOUTS. "ALL THE WAY"
I'm Surprised Panama's still sea level, after all the Push Ups I did down there.

Good Point Bro about having some items that were clean around for inspections, like this K-pot I got walking across Gatun DZ back in 88' that somebody lost on a jump right after we jumped there once. After finishing that OPFOR mission and returning back to Fort Kobbe I went over to CIF at the earliest chance and DX'ed that bad boy; then after that I had my inspection helmet to this day I still have that helmet all rigged up.

I used to have almost a complete extra set of TA-50 for inspections. That is the only way to go.
