Rakkasan (10/4/2005)
As the username suggests, I am a Rakkasan and, as such, proud of my unit's history, lineage and honors.

I believe that every soldier should believe that his regiment is the best regiment in the history of the United States Army, without apology! Of course we all know that The Falcon Regiment really is the best regiment but...

Aim small; miss small.

Rakkasan

As a 82nd Paratrooper (87-90 & 92-93) who also made the mistake of re-uping to go to the "Old Guard" (90-91) I know the b.s. you're putting up with, with those badgehunting prima donnas.  I remember how when I was assigned to C Co. (cellblock c back then) I was told by a 2 yr in service Cpl that my CIB didn't mean **it to him.  I also remember as a S-3 driver how a company was pulled out of the field during training at A.P. Hill due to rain.  Finally I remember how I, as a EIB evaluator, was pressured to give away go's at my station, especially to officers and NCO's who went crying to the committee when you messed up their functions check on the M-60 machine gun.

I also served with a Rakkasan in Korea and he was a great light fighter who took his job seriously, and was proud of his regiment, he was looking forward to PCSing back to it when his year in Korea was up.  So don't let the pretty boys at TOG get to you and ignore the more ignorant ranting of my fellow paratroopers.

Goto Jump School when you're ready mentally and physically, if not for yourself then to shut the jerks up.

Take care and good luck.

I get sick and tired of this fascination with the Old Guard, because I saw personally the type of NCO's they produce and it one they sent us down to C co. 1/508th in early 1989.  This guy came to us as an E-5P later to get his E-6 from there with his EIB, Airborne, Air Assault, and Pathfinder wings you think he would have learned something from all those schools and that vaunted EIB of his; but "NO" the guy was an idiot just another Badge Finder from the Old Guard who got lost out in the jungle every time he took point or attempted to.  That's why we gave him the nickname "SGT LOST" we felt it appropriate.  It seemed that it was the rest of us who had been trained down there to land navigate in the jungle were the ones who were always bailing us of the messes he got in all the time with all that "expertise" he picked up there at the Old Guard.

That's my afternoon rant for now I guess.

I'm Surprised Panama's still sea level, after all the Push Ups I did down there.
