| My "small brain" is just an expression because I dont know much about this topic.Well I'm 6'0 and I weigh 215. I manage to easily keep up with most everybody else and today im going to take a 1 mile jog up and downhill.I'll see how I can do and see what I got.For me it would be a more physical than mental challenge

| Who cares how fat you are, didn't you just read the story I posted before? Fat is unused energy and you have unused energy that you can use. Just as long as you don't ever give up and believe in yourself that is your ultimate weapon right there. It doesn't matter how much you weight or how strong you are as long as you have the will to keep moving ahead.

| from my own personal bias and own personal experiences, I'd say work smarter and not harder. get at least some college under your belt. being an E-2 paratrooper is huah and all but guess what, the O-1 paratrooper is getting $2,343.60 a month and the E-2 is getting $1,384.50 a month. even if you decide to finish college and not be an officer, an E-4 gets $1,612.80 a month and having your college squared away will give you that many more points for your E-5 and E-6 ... and while some people are still morons after college, if you go to a decent school and apply yourself you will come out a better person (and soldier) for having gone. it's not all about money obviously but if you have those capabilities, you're going to feel like an idiot in two and a half years when you're struggling to make E-5 and you could've had your E-6 or O-2 with the same amount of time in service. i would say go to college and join ROTC or the reserves or some combination of the two. the war will still be there when you get out of school, don't sweat it. if you're dead set on going in as fast as possible, do some college and then go to OCS or front load college and graduate in two and a half years or something. if you want any specific advice about ROTC, the reserves, and college, ask ... I won't bore people with the unsolicited details.

| I just did a longer post about this but it's not coming up, so apoligies if this is a repeat or I posted it somewhere incorrectly ... ANYWAY ... Go to college for a while before you go on AD. It can be hard to get college on AD and it's getting harder with deployments, and the occasional TAP shortage (and with everyone deployed, getting sent to a lot of schools, korea, etc.). While you're in college you can train with ROTC and join the reserves. You will get good training, make good money, have a more diverse set of life experiences and connections, and when you go on AD, either as an officer or a enlisted soldier, you will be making more money and getting promoted faster. if you want more specific details on the rotc / college / reserves thing, ask me for elaboration ... I'm not going to bore everyone with it if it's unsolicited.

| O-1 and E-4 are pay grades. The ranks that correspond to them are Second Lieutenant and Specialist. And I will disagree with the information AlexiF posted. If you want to go to college, fine go for it. If you want ROTC go for it, you will get plenty of info from your instructors. But only the top percentage of ROTC grads nationwide get active duty commissions. And the choice of branch is ultimately up to the Army. If you do get in the right branch you can get Airborne and Ranger school, but you have even less chance of getting to an Airborne unit than you do by enlisting. As for going in as a Specialist, this is something I do not like. College doesn't make you a better soldier or leader. Any rank above PFC should be earned not given because you spent four years in college. If you want to be an officer fine, but if your decision is based on money then you don't need to be in the Army at all.
Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you, Jesus Christ and the American GI. One died for your soul, the other for your freedom.

| The way I see it Pounds, You've got a couple of options. You could enlist and go on Active Duty while taking college courses in your spare time (or whatever is left of it.) You could enlist, do your 3 or 4 years and then get out and use the benefits to go to college full time. If you still want to stay in the military then you could also take a spot in your school's ROTC Program and earn a commission as an officer while going through college. Finally, You could forego enlistment and go to College (Full time) first while training for a commission through ROTC, After College you can then take up a position as an officer on Active Duty. All 3 Options are unique and have their own advantages and down-sides that I'm sure other members of the board could fill you in on much more accurately on than me. Also, I'm not sure this is the case for you but going into the military for money is a bad idea. I'm n | | | |
