how do you train to be one?
by first completing High School, then passing Basic training.

Squad leaders are non-commisioned officers (NCOs) developed from good team leaders who in turn are created out of good soldiers... it's a long and demanding process that requires discipline, motivation, and technical & tactical proficiency. Platoon leaders are commisioned lieutenants who have completed at least a associates degree in college and have completed numerous Army schools such as OCS, IOBC, Ranger, etc...

If you desire to attain either position you need to prove yourself capable both physically and academically. Apply yourself 110% to your studies and get in good physical shape. Most importantly... never accept mediocrity from yourself. "Good enough" is not acceptable in the Army...

Good luck and welcome to Paratrooper.net

It is actually a secret ceremony whereby 11 ninjas attack the proposed squad leader as he is sleeping in 12 inches of icy cold mud at the bottom of the "Bear Pit". If the individual kills at least 8 of the ninjas before he himself is killed, then as per typical DOD policy, he will become a squad leader. To become a platoon leader you must have the sacred leadership skills of not being able to identify any points of a compass, not know which side of your uniform goes out when you wear it, know how to use a pointer but not a weapon, and you must ask so many foolish questions of your superiors that they become so confused that they actually feel you are a future candidate for their own jobs. You must, however, not allow yourself to be gazed upon by a Command Sergeant Major before this happens or you will wee-wee in your pants and have to join the Navy instead....
