about french foreign legion, well it seems that all u people in here knows so damn much about the french foreign legion, why not just join then. I spent more than 15½ years in the second paratrooper regiment based on the island og Corsica. And as far I can tell that the test you pass are hard enough, if you are a hardcore criminal you wont even get a chance to all the way to headquarters, for further tests, you would be giving out to Interpol and send home to face court. So dont give me all the BS about criminals hiding in the foreign legion, these times are long gone, they accept if you own your bank some money or you run away from your pregnant wife and funny things like that and thats it. Now come on legionaire65, all of us?  You go throw a blanket statement like that around here and I'll bet you get nothing but negative responses thrown right back into your face. Doesn't your signature line say look on the bright side of life? Try looking at the reality of it instead.

When the French Foriegn Legion was formed back in 1831, hell, some of the french recruits were trying to escape the attention of their local police. It's well documented.

It's been that way with our own military recruits for years.  There is always going to be a few rotten apples who slip thru the cracks.

If you are french and want to join, don't they change your record of identity over to french swiss or some derivative thereof because only officers can be truly french born in the Legion?

So if there is such a wide variety of folks from all over the world joining the Legion, there are bound to be a few with a colorful past and might not get detected by Interpol, especially if they have already changed their identity before joining.

Least to say, I agree that when you join, if you have criminal record, chances are pretty good you will get ousted by Le Gestapo. But I would say there are a small few who make it in that haven't been caught yet or have been given a second chance after their interview.

Reread what I wrote my friend... I mentioned that an interpol check is part of the entrance process. The Serbs who joined did so before their previous membership in certain units was ascertained so there was no paper trail to set off a red flag. Far as joining the Legion goes... I did my dozen years plus in my own nation's army and have zero desire to go through the ranks again. I do know several men who served in the FFL however and have trained with the organization... not bad soldiers by any means... alot like our USMC in tactical employment.
