Ertman (6/9/2005)
Just when you think that life is wonderful, you get thrown a curve ball. (Actually more like high inside heat, akin to Nolan Ryan throwing some chin music!) The Ertman has contracted Lyme Disease! I got a tick bite on May 8th, and wound up with going to the Doc on Monday for rash at the bite site that will not go away. Doc now has me on antibiotics. The joint pain and lethargy is killing me. Hopefully we caught it in time. Sorry about that....I know your pain, I was diagnosed with Lyme disease last summer, as were my wife and oldest son. We had been camping down in south central Kansas around a town called Winfield and all ended up with tick bites. I never had the rash, what brought me to the docter was joint pain and fatigue, my wife and son were having the same symptoms so they were tested as well...of course came up positive. Wierd thing about it was they weren't even going to test me for until I mentioned a friend of mine (the landowner of our campsite) having coming down with it. It sucks, and I think I still am having problems with it even though the docters say I am clear. Best of luck with it bro!

Damn Ert,
good luck, early treatment is a big key, so I hope you'll be good to go in no time.

| I was told that the only effective way of treating the disease is to have a blood transfusion, but the science may have improved since 1985. Hey ERTMAN, give me a call, at least, if your blood type is A, Rh Positive.

Early diagnosis can mean only a couple of weeks of anti-biotics. I contracted that back in '88 and had to walk around work with a damn IV stand of Rosefin for weeks and weeks since I wasn't diagnosed for months after the tick bite. I got real good at changing my own IV shunt though. After all of that I still have some arthritic pain, short term-memory problems and chronic-fatigue- syndrome. If you run into any of this stuff down the road there is a remedy for CFS now. A side-effect of a drug called Amytriptyline is to combat chronic-fatigue-syndrome in some people. I've been taking 10 mg in the morning and another 10mg at night for years now and was able to function physically just fine (mentally is a whole other issue ).

First off Ertman, Speedy Recoverey Brother!!! That sucks man and I hope you get over it soon!! Dennis, I just started taking that drug. Doc at the VA took one look at me and said "You don't sllep much do you?" I have not had a decent nights sleep in about 2 years at least, taking one 10 Mg at night for now.

I ran my construction company. It made for some good laughs though.
