I just wanted to drop a line and say what a great time I had at the awards festival.  I was the Battalion NCO of the year sent to represent the 509th and it was an absolute honor to be in the company of some of the greatest men whove ever lived.

I was in complete awe of the Paratroopers who were honored during the banquet and the things that they had done to keep all of us free and safe through terrible times.  There were several occasions, during the weekend's speeches and conversations, that I felt as though I didnt have the right to call myself a Paratrooper in comparison to those around me but that was all self-imposed.  I was treated as a complete equal and welcomed, at times even shown off, by all of the Airborne community.

I will never be able to express the appreciation, respect, and gratitude that I hold towards those who came before me.  I can only give all the effort I ave to uphold the high standards and honor of what it means to be Airborne.  To all of those who I spent time with that weekend thank you; you have provided e with a whole new level of motivation to be the best Paratrooper I can be.  Hope to see some of you at the 509th reunion in New Orleans in July.  AIRBORNE!!!! ALL THE WAY!

War is an ugly thing but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patrioic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse.  A man who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made so and kept so by the exertions of men better than himself. - John Stuart Mill

Tell the other younger troopers out there that this is the feeling you get while in these paratrooper organizations and that they too will be treated as equals and brothers/sisters. I cant stress enough how much we need to get more younger troopers to get involved.

Im on my way to bury a WWII trooper of the 82nd and while its sad and this isnt the first nor will be the last... its my duty and honor to send my brother off properly.

Hooah trooper!

So, how do you become a paratrooper?

1. Join Military with contract for AIRBORNE

2. Go to Airborne School and complete the course

3. Learn how HOOAH is spelled

4. Push for being a pre cherry.
