(hope someone reads this, this topic hasn't been posted for 1 month)
I'm looking into Ranger school *RIP* But i'm a Marine and the recruiter said since i didn't have a Infantry based mos i have to go through AIT. Now in the Sticky for RAnger school the only part i'm worried about failing is this:
Land Navigation Standard: Combined (Day and Night) land navigation test: Must find 5 of 6 points in five hours during examination in the Ranger course. The start time will be adjusted to ensure the Ranger Student has 2 ½ hrs of limited visibility (night) and 2 ½ hrs of daylight. The test starts with the night portion first. Therefore, you must train until you can successfully locate at least 2 points during 2½ hrs of limited visibility or you will not make 5 out of 6 points in 5 hours. Most of the Land Navigation failures do not make the time standard. The only way to get faster is to practice. Route planning is a skill commonly overlooked by Ranger School’s land navigation failures.
Will AIT be able to train me Land Navigation skills enough to be able to make this a breeze? I'm NBC so i work with maps i know how they works. I did night patrols in iraq, but i was just a saw gunner. I have 10 months until my EAS, i can study land nav books. But i just dont have the experience on foot and finding grid locations on a map in person.

You'll be fine devildog, you'll be a land nav master by the end of that course. Its the humpin around the woods on no sleep that gets people, if you can concentrate and remember what you have to do you'll do fine.

| RIP and Ranger School are not the same. RIP is a three week course run by the 75th for E-4 and below to be assigned to the 75th. After graduating from RIP(if you do) you will go to one of the three battalions. You will spend at least six months in the Regiment before getting a slot to Ranger School. Once you get a slot you will have to successfully pass the pre-Ranger course run by the RTB. Then, and only then, will you go to the RTB for Ranger School. Before you are even considered the 75th will make sure you are up on all of your skills. (hope someone reads this, this topic hasn't been posted for 1 month)
