As most of you know, my husband and I lost our baby to a miscarriage.  I am slowing getting over my mourning phase and realize that life must go on.  We are both feeling empty and lost.  I have lost much sleep and am seeking help through Jim for my depression. At this stage, Jim is more worried about me than anything.  Before we try again, he must know I am completely healed and mentally able.  Any of you men who have been through this before have any words of advice for Jim? He wants to know ways he can help me or help for him in his grieving process.  Please feel free to PM me with your thoughts.

About two years ago, a good friend of mine and his wife lost their baby just before the first trimester. He took the loss harder than his wife (a medical professional who was able to rationalize the situation better I guess.) Anyway, he was able to make it through the grief and they now have a little boy who just turned one yesterday. Will ask him for advice he might have for your husband today. One thing though... the whole situation then lead to a lot of open discussion and it became apparent that miscarriages are not as uncommen as we guys think. For example, I found out that both my mother and sister had them... Sorry if this paragraph seems a little unfocused.

I am amazed by the number of people who I have met who have had a miscarriage.  Jim and I talk openly about it.  He just did not know what to do for me.  He is the take charge, super hero kind of guy (who would have thought?).  He has a hard time just listening.  I am getting better and we are getting stronger as a couple.  I have given him print outs of your advice.  I appreciate it all.  For all of you who have lost a child before me, I am truly sorry for your loss.  I like what Justin has been saying, our next child has an angel looking out for them now.

Jen one thing that helped my wife and I was to know that at least we could concieve and just to keep faith and realize that things happen for a reason...maybe not a reason we are privy to but a reason none the less. Get strong and try again, I must say thay it seems to be something that brings a couple even closer if that is any help. God Bless you both.

Stand in the door!

Jen,

My only advice is if the depression is severe (where it is causing negative changes in your personal or professional lives) see and trust your doctor.  Take advantage of modern day anti-depressants . . . this will allow you to sleep at night and slowly regain some of your physical and metal health.

Lastly, . . . see a close family member, friend, therapist, psychologist, psychoanalysis, counselor, or a Minister/Priest and get off of the anti-depressants as soon as you are able.  Meidication and/or reaching out is not a sign of weakness, the pain and questions are a part of the process that transition you through this time and allows the moving on.

We have kept you and Jim in our thoughts and prayers since we first learned of your loss.  And given that we can do little more, that is where we will keep you.

Thank you for your kind words.  I refuse to go on treatment or take any medication as my depression did not require me to.  Jim was there for me and that got me through it.  The pain will always be there but we know that we will move on when the time is right.

As for the stress factor, I quit my job here as the HR MAnager and found a job more suited for me closer to home.  This job was way too much for one individual and that did not help me in my stress level.  Things are picking up for us and I can freely talk more about my situation without breaking down and crying.  I just have to remember that Rome was not built in a day and the grieving process takes about just as long.
