Hey im just wondering if anybody thinks we will ever see the Canadian Airborne Regiment again? This has probroly been posted before but I wanna get a discussion stirring. I was taking a tour of an Armory (Darby 8th Field Engineers) on Saturday and I had the pleasure of talking to a few guys with the jump wings, a few guys from that unit are taking the jump school at this moment. At the moment Im going army reserves but the jump school is still offered to reserves, Im hoping I can get a spot for the school sometime in the future. The fact that Canada has a new PM and defense minister who plan on increasing the Canadian DND budget might play a part. I read off a website that there was talk in the house of commons about the reinstatement of the CAR. I think Canada could definetly use a new airborne regiment, but it would take alot of money I guess, a whole new fleet of Hurcules would almost need to be purchased, and an airborne unit would cost alot more than another regular infantry battalion. I guess all I can do right now is hope and be ready for it if the oppurtunity does arise, any comments are appreicated.

I wouldn't hold my breath on it. Until the Canadian government gets a somewhat less socialist and pascifist it would not be likely. Canada has reduced their military expenditures to levels that are outpaced by many third world countries. Also consider that your not replacing your MBT's with tanks, but with LAV's highlights the attitude.
What really matters is whats over the next hill, what the other guy can do, and is it gonna rain, snow, blow and in what combination...
