I heard from my son on Thanksgiving morning. He is doing well and sounds strong. He's working 18+ hour days. I sent him a 2 inch thick fiber filled (fake down) mattress pad for Christmas, which he loves....but rarely gets to use. His feet are a mess....says his buddies say his feet are the worst thing that ever hit Iraq. I shipped him a "foot care package" yesterday. I hope it helps. When he gets back, I am giving him one more (belated) Christmas gift....a year's subscription to p.net. I think he will like this site.
I need to know what information is ok to share on this site. I read another new member's post and saw replies that said we should not give out specific information....including unit name. I have posted the name of my son's unit and have also put it in my profile. Should I edit it?
Thanks,
Brenda[ ]

As a side note, Gold Bond spray is great for their feet. Hubby loves it and it helps their feet a little bit. Unfortunately, their feet are going to be hateful no matter what you do. Also, see if he wants those Adidas sandles for the shower. Helps protect them a little bit if they wear them. I sent hubby lots of socks from Sierra trader that are a wool, cotton, polyester blend and they seem to help him out somewhat.

Mazzi,
Gold Bond Spray was one of the items in my "foot care package". I am glad I got it....wasn't sure what all to send.
I have sent him lots and lots of socks, but no matter how many I send, he only ends up with one pair....he gives them to his buddies. Gotta love him for that. Knowing he shares, I send lots of extras in hopes there is enough to at least go around his entire squad.

| Brenda, your profile is fine along with posting your son's unit. Just don't post his full name or any specifics as to exactly where he is at.

Brenda,
Glad to hear everything is well with your son.
As far as informtion goes, do you remember the old WWII saying "Loose Lips Sink Ships".
We on this site unlike some of the other sites take the security of or troops seriously. First names are fine. Units are fine. Locations are not. Addresses, phone numbers and such should be kept to e-mail and then only with people you think that you can trust.
What we don't want to do here is become even a little bit of an intelligence gathering point for the bad guys. What is said here in itself may seem to be useless, however, added with other information gathered it could become potentially useful for the bad guys.
We love to hear that he and his unit are doing great things. You can tell us the stories he tells you if you want, just leave out the locations and keep the details general in nature.
And yes all of us grunts know about the feet issue. There are five point on a grunt that are more critical then other points:
The brain.
The eyes.
The trigger finger.
The back.
The feet.
I encourage you to talk with the other members on p.net that have deployed family members. It not only helps you but it helps the others as well.

Outstanding! Glad you could talk to him.
Your profile is fine, and Arcticabn covered the rest of your questions thoroughly.
Best Regards!
