Heres a question that I've been thinking of after reading CSM Purdy's essay:

Who is the NCO who has influenced you the most?

For me, it is simple...It was my best friends father, RCSM Dennis Worley. He was the RCSM of the 3rd ACR before/during/after GW1. As a teenager growing up we got to see this man work (during the summer when we didn't have anything else to do). Hard as woodpecker lips! Several tours in Nam, several awards (doesn't talk about them... but if I remember correctly its 1 silver and 2 bronze w at least 2 purples)....when he was RCSM of the 3rd ACR they beat the OPFOR at Ft. Irwin, done REFORGER several times...earned his spurs...he's BTDT in the Cav World.

He made sure that his troops were well trained and walked the line. Actually got to see a poor trooper he caught wearing a patrol cap backwards....

But he always made sure they were provided for and that they were trained. That's why the 3ACR was so outstanding in GW1 and so many came back.

And even though he's been retired for over ten years he still got a silver dollar and a salute from me when I got out of OTS.

I'd like to see which NCO's influenced all yall p.netters

There were quite a few, all under different circumstances. Each influenced me in the manner I needed it most at the time, so it's difficult to say. I'm equally indebted to each of them.

In spite of all this Army of One crap, I'm sure there are still high quality NCOs all over the place. It's just harder to see them because they're not self-serving cheese-dicks.

I had many but the one who probably influnced me the most was SSG Fuller who is now at least a Captain. He joined my squad from the 82nd. As most of you can guess anyone from the outside at the Ranger Batts is thought less of until they can prove themselves no matter what they have done before. SSG Fuller was by far the best leader I ever served under. He led by example in everything and was good at everything. I still try and set the example by what he taught me. If I could have served under him the whole time I was in the Army I would still probably be in.

He was a leader like Captain Winters was for Easy company in Band of Brothers. Everyone looked up to him and I still do to this day. He taught me what leadership is.

SSG Gibson from C/2/3 @ Ft Dix 1983 this guy I remember not sure why maybe because he knew I was going to BAC and then to Bragg he rode me hard and never let me forget that I was going where the real Soldiers go and I had better get squared away or I would fail. He pushed me and pushed me some more I was his "problem child" that is what he refered to me as on several occasions. He gets the credit for transforming me into a Soldier. Did not ever see him after BCT

DS Castile at C-1-2 in 84 was probably the first. Not my DS, but the DS of another platoon in C Co. Pushed me to go the distance when my Ds was satisfied with the minimum. SDS Garry Owen, decorated VietNam vet. He remembered me four years later when I was a young SSG and ran into him in the PX. SFC Bligen, took a load of **** from our 1SG, that prejudice SOB and never let it phase him or the change the way he treated us. SSG Guiterrez, now CSM of the 27th ENG. Drove us hard and we hated him for it. Still can't say I like him, but I do have respect for him. SFC Leland Crawford, brought us all home safe from the first Gulf War, named my youngest son after him. Was blessed with some of the best 1SGs ever. Darryl Bacon, Charlie Proctor, Ed Jones, hell even Eddie Dart, that short bastard who cut the top out of my cherry beret, was a good 1SG. Badger and Clark sucked at being 1SGs but taught me how not to be one. Then in the reserves CSM(R) Randy Vidrine, 82nd Dom Rep vet, was my 1SG and later my CSM always hard, always fair.

Ranger2-

Was SSG Fuller a kind of beefy guy with sandy blonde hair and a good ole boy from Tennessee or Kentucky? We had a SSG Fuller in Scouts 1-504 that went to the Rangers. Sounds too close to NOT be him.

SSG Shea Leudke and SSG Lambert raised me from a pup. Leudke was a tabbed Ranger and also served with Bat in Grenada, CBT Jump, CMB,
