Yeah, welcome home soldier-boy.

I'm on HLTA. It's a leave we get when deployed overseas on Peace-Keeping missions.
Our Leave flight from Germany was delayed, so I sent two boys ahead to try and hold the plane, while directing the other fellas to the right area. Everything’s cool. I get to our second plane and ask the stewardess if a bunch of soldiers are on. She tells me that there are several in uniform.
I tell her “No, these guys are in civvies, with slightly longer hair and are mostly unshaven.”
She says she doesn’t know. I respond “ Well, we may be running late, I hope they all make it here soon.” She goes “or what?”
I say “ I dunno, what, am I gonna hi-jack the plane?”
She says “I wish you hadn’t said that, and disappears into the cock-pit.”
I say to her disappearing back, “well, let’s pretend I didn’t.” (Now, I’m figuring everything is still “tee hee hee” We’re all joking, we’re laughing. So, the next little bit catches me off guard.)
Now the pilot or co-pilot comes screaming out of the cock-pit and starts jacking me up. Telling me what a piece of **** I am, how I’m a poor example of a leader and a **** soldier. He hasn’t taken the time to ask me a question yet. He has no idea who I am, or what the situation is. He’s already assumed I’m some drunken ass-hole. (A fair assumption, true. Except, I don’t drink in theatre, and we were all taking it easy to avoid just such a situation from occurring.) He says to me that he’s Capt What’s-his-face from the Reserves and he’s going to have me charged with Uttering A Terrorist Threat. He has no idea what my story may be, he doesn’t know my name yet, but he’s going to charge me. All he knows is that I’m a soldier returning from Afghanistan. So, he calls Airport Security and the Police.
Right on.
Now, he decides he’s going to have every soldier on the plane thrown off, INCLUDING the Reservists in uniform, travelling on Army business, who have no relation to Afghanistan or me. He’s just going to throw every soldier off the plane, ruining their homecomings, and making the ones not on Leave, miss their flight and be AWOL. Great example of a Commissioned Member leading, huh? Remember, though, the NCO who was concerned about his troops being late and missing their flight, HE’S the lousy leader. So, that’s when I lose it and start yelling at an officer. A Reservist Officer, true, but still an officer.

OK, Airport Security arrives. I tell my story, his flight crew tells theirs, he rants. Security is on my side and just wants this whole situation to go away. He’ll have none of it.

Oh, goody, here comes the Police. Now, they get the story from the Pilot, the flight crew and Airport Security. The cops want the whole thing dropped. He wants me in prison. No shit, that’s what he wants. He wants me charged with a Federal felony and charged to the max under both military and civilian law. The cops refuse to press those charges, but have to charge me with something and get me away from there. So, they ask me if I’ve had anything to drink.

Well, naturally. I’m Irish.

So, they ask if I mind if they charge me with Public Intoxication. By now, I don’t give a **** if they charge me with Sodomy and Murder. Just get the damn plane in the air, and the Boys home. I tell them this. So, that’s the plan. I go to jail for being drunk in public (which, for the first time in maybe ever, I’m NOT) and the plane take off.

Cut to Mississauga Jail. Here we see one hill-billy without his boots, belt, or patrol pack, in cells. His wife has been phoned at Ottawa airport not come get him. (but the message was garbled, and she thinks I’m actually drunk and guilty. Lovely, more **** to come from there.) The cops refused to cuff me or search me, I’ve got two blankets and they went downtown and got me a fresh cup of Tim Hortons coffee and some chow. Things could be worse.

They give me some time in the cell (about 4 hours, long enough to get some rack and chow) then drive me back to the airport. Airport Security made sure I wasn’t black-listed, (despite the pilot’s best efforts) so I got another flight home. However, the civvie Police had to report me to the MPs, who had to report me to my chain of command. Now, we’ll see Monday what happens. I’ve spoken with the Duty Sergeant and the Duty Officer. They seem to believe me, but they’re new to my Battalion, and don’t know me. Neither does the DSM or acting CO. I may be "F"ed.

Well, I guess we see now whether my Chain of Command is willing to believe a decorated soldier, with a Commendation, or a reservist officer who seems to have an axe to grind. Of course, the Cops and Airport Security are on my side, but we’ll see.

How's your day been?

I'm not sure but you may have set a record for getting in the sh^t! Welcome home PC, kinda missed you around here. I've guessed we've learned that airline crews have no sense of humor either. Good luck bro.

Sheridan, I hope that it all works out for you. I'm glad to see that you took care of the troops, even in the midst of all that nonsense. Enjoy your time off, and try to stay out of trouble!
