Im thinking about reclassing to 13F (Forward Observer) from MP. Ive looked everywhere that I can think of for info but keep coming up with the same job description. From what I understand is that 13F is a grunt with a radio. Being a E-5 what could I look forward to? Would I be with the CO and 1SG or BN or BDE? Any help would be appreciated.

First off, I am not a 13F, but am a 13D......so worked (talked via radio) with FO quite frequently. I don't believe you would be walking with either.
My Battery in the 82nd had a FO (13F) platoon, like all the other Btry's. They were assigned to an artillery unit but did all of their field time and deployments mostly with the infantry, in our case the 504th. The 13F primary job is to provide the link for artillery support to a ground element. As directed an FO would call for and adjust artillery and sometimes air fires on the enemy.
You would hump, jump and live with the infantry but you would still be artillery and because of your role you would be required to carry the commo to do your job.
I believe you would be working closer with an Infantry Platoon leader than the actual CDR or 1SG.

Every time we went to the field our attached 13F's went with us. They were attached down to the platoon level

Im just looking at my options now. Window for re-enlistment opens next month. I may wait till I get to Bragg to re-enlist. There are reasons why I want to change. I wont go into them now. As far as MPs being a critical or shortage MOS, I havent seen anything in writing yet.

Ok went to Retention yesterday to see what my options are. Because of the In/Out calls it doesnt look good for 13F. MPs need to be balanced or over strength for me to reclass. Im now looking at the UAs. However the only ones open to me are 3RD BRIGADE 4TH INFANTRY DIVISION FORT CARSON and 4RD BRIGADE 4TH INFANTRY DIVISION FORT HOOD both with report dates of NLT 31 Mar 05. I did get offered Physical security school and am also looking at k-9. I may hold out for as long as I can to see what happens.
