Time to start a new discussion with you wonderful folks! Things have been sort of quiet in here! I've been spending a lot of time in the book of Ephesians and thought this would be a good one to toss into the discussion ring!

He knows where we are going, but we don't, so for practical purposes, there is free will.
Go with God, but make Him walk the point.
If you load a mudfoot down with a lot of gadgets he has to watch somebody a lot more simply equipped - say with a stone axe - will sneak up and bash his head in while he is trying to read a Vernier. - Robert Heinlein

Very true, Rickdog. He knows where we are headed because He is God, but we don't. One thing that peaked my interest in asking about our purpose for being here was something that the Apostle Paul says in the first 14 verses of Ephesians, Ch 1. Five times Paul uses a phrase containing 'for His purpose' or 'for the praise of His glory'. I submit therefore that as Christians, we exist for Him and not the other way around. What do you think?

I exist, for His purpose. I am at His bidding.
Rather than for Satan's.
I serve only one master for He is ,My Father.
These are My choices.
The way I look at it is either you accept Jesus into your life or you accept satan into your heart.
Gladly I acknowledge that God is my Heavenly Father, rather than to let Satan into my life.

Well, He made us for some reason. Boredom or morbid curiosity of so we could help and hurt each other. I don't know which reason, but there was one.
Go with God, but make Him walk the point.

I believe your life is like dot to dots, if you were to do it PERFECT you'd go from DOT to DOT with those dots representing places that He determines you need to be at.
We on the other hand can use our free will to go from dot 1 to dot 2 by way of the rest of the paper... making decisions all over but at some point, He'll make certain we hit 2 and so on to three, four etc.
I actually like the show Joan of Arcadia, its very thought provoking on this suject. They present it very well in that God doesnt come out and give you the grand plan, just tells you what your grain of sand needs to do to form the beach the right way.
Heck, look at this place. In all the chatter of five years maybe the point isnt to create some great website for veterans but in all the noise, ONE apparently tiny event may occur that wouldnt have happened had it NOT been for this place.

Amen, my brothers! Life certainly full of choices! We make the choices and God has the master plan. Agonyea, you hit the nail on the head also. Bob Dylan once wrote a song entitled 'You Gotta Serve Somebody'. The point is that we live in service to the King of Kings or Satan. Ephesians 2:1-10 gives an excellent summary:
And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins, 2in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience, 3among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others. 4But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, 5even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), 6and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. 8For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9not of works, lest anyone should boast. 10For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.
Therefore when I am faced with a decision concernng which way to go or what to do, I can rightfully ask "Will my decision bring glory and honor to my King?"
Well said, men!
