They lull you into a sense of "Oh hell this ain't that bad" while you spend a few days at reception doing like they have all been saying here. Basic issue, haircuts, D&C, and paper work. Then when you are feeling comfortable they put your ass on a bus and take you to where the fun starts and you meet your Drill for the first time.

Then they make you dump everything out that was on your packing list to bring with you, make sure you got everything, inventorie it, and have you put it into one of your two new duffle bags so they can store it and you will never see it again until you graduate.

At least that is the way it was on September 17, 1983. Things may have changed a touch since then, that and the fact that it sounds like you are going to Jackson and not Benning.

Seeing as Joel and I were in OSUT together, I can only say it is as he stated. Nothing I can tell you that will prepare you more than you already are.
Good Luck, and get used to Hurry up and wait!

Yikes- I remember "Fat Platoon!" When we arrived at the chow hall, they had already been there for some time, marching in place, singing "Great Green Gobs" over and over again! Ate after EVERY other company, DS, cadre, and anyone else their DS's could get to eat!! Ran through the mess like there was a fire on their asses- don't think any of them every finished what paltry meals they managed to pick up. Then marched, and marched, and marched, and....
