Yesterday I ran into an Air Force ROTC cadet that had new shiny jump wings on and so I asked him how Ft. Benning was. He told me that he didn't go there for jump school, but instead the AF cadets went to jump school at the AF academy in Colorado Springs. I have never heard of a jump school there. I'm thinking that either a) he's FOS and shouldn't wear the wings b)the AF now has some joke of a BAC that's totally watered down or c)the AF now has a jump school and the world is coming to an end. Does anyone have any info on this??

Chris, I remember discussing this some time ago. The AF Academy allows their cadets who go through a skydiving course to wear jump wings.[BS] If they want to actually do military jumps they still have to go to Ft. Benning for the regular course. Be sure to point out to this cadet that just because the AF does that he is not a paratrooper.

Chris, I don't think there was ever a separate topic. It was just mentioned in at least one and I think two topics. The link to one of the topics it was discussed in is below.

Also, run a search in the archived topics. I remember when it was first posted it was a year and a half or two years ago.

How in the hell do they Justify wearing of the Basic Parachutist Badge in this way!! This in my mind is just plain wrong, insulting and demeans the dedication of Paratroopers! They want to have their own Parachuting "Club" FINE!! but let them come up with their own set of wings for it!! Sorry but this one has me pretty pissed off!!
Wearing of Awards or Badges you have not earned by going to the Proper Military School is Punishable under the UCMJ!! For the AF to say that these Cadets can wear Jump Wings without going o BAC is just insulting and dimminishes the accomplishments of those who have! So do they get to wear these throughout their time in Service after the Academy also? [ !][bang][bogld][bogld]
Hey I have flown in a Plane can I put on Aviator Wings? I have Rapelled, can I wear the AASLT Wings? WTF OVER!!!

So PADIAL, this is Skydiving then? Not jumping with equipment from C-130s or C-17s? Like I said let them come up with their own Wings then. Sounds like they are doing Civilian Style Skydiving that anyone can do with enought time and money through a local Skydiving Club.
Hey more power to them to develop Leadership, but one of the key things in a Leader is their Integrity. This course rewards Cadets by Awarding them Jump Wings for Skydiving wich is NOT close to the type of Jumping a Paratrooper does, except of course Military Freefall wich I would venture to guess is also quite a bit more challenging than what they are doing as well. This does not teach them Integrity, as they are being Issued something they have not Earned as every other person who goes to the real school!
