Concept... Replacing the TCITS and .50 cupola with a slaved system mounted on the turret roof between the TC & loader's hatches that operates in a manner similar to the Apache's TADS-PNVS. The TC would have two options for viewing/controlling. Primary would be a CVC helmet with the same IR sensor array and monacle as found on the AH-64, secondary would be the existing TCITS screen and controls. Advantages Unsurpassed situational awareness with "look-shoot" capability for the tank commander. Use of existing technology that is in the inventory will shorten "teething" time and streamline associated logistics/maintenance issues. Potential Disadvantages Turret interior bathed in IR light which could give away position if hatches are open. Vibration of co-mounted weapon system might have adverse effect on optics.
"The degenerative and loony should never be denigrated but, rather, thanked. In their absence, the rest of you would be obliged to fill congressional seats... positions naturally unsavory to the sane and honorable." Thorax

Suggested up-grade: SAAB Barracuda Mobile Camouflage System, MCS, that is an individually designed camouflage kit for vehicles, providing: Complete sensor protection
This sophisticated concept for object adapted Signature Management provides;
• Full protection against homing missiles • Prevents lock-on by smart munitions • Reduction of detection range
Heat Transfer Reduction
All MCS can be supplemented with an HTR System. This system is designed to reduce the heat transfer through the hull into vehicles operating in warm climates like desert and tropical regions, to protect personnel and sensitive equipment.
Logistics
All parts of the Mobile Camouflage System are easily attached and firmly fixed to the vehicle. The MCS can be washed by high pressure cleaning. It can be prepared in peace and attached for combat within an hour by the crew. http://products.saab.se/PDBWeb/ShowProduct.aspx?ProductId=567
