This was in Gertz' and Scarborough's column today:

An internal memo from the Army's Human Resources Command has some tough advice on how to treat infantry branch officers who don't shape up.

"If you have an officer who has demonstrated the core values we desire, he might be a good candidate at [Fort Benning, the infantry training center], or one of the other training centers forming our future soldiers and leaders, and we will help you get him there if that's what you want him to do," said the memo to Army infantry colonels. "If you have an officer who is sub-standard, I ask that you bring him up to standard or eliminate him, as you see fit."

Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you, Jesus Christ and the American GI.  One died for your soul, the other for your freedom.

"History teaches that when you become indifferent and lose the will to fight someone who has the will to fight will take over." COLONEL BULL SIMONS

Volunteers anyone?

I'd be interested in seeing what it was that prompted this memo. But I think it's great that someone is trying to get the BEST into the Infantry and get rid of the dud's at the same time.

That's because all the Officer candidates that were bad ended in in Support units, like my last XO, ROTC grad, thought he knew it all, found out he got booted out the service for falsifying documents, he "lost" the lens for the DZSO camera, when it was on his personal camera the whole time, an NCO the know what was up turned his ass in

In my platoon we liked Lt.Murphey,,, but then again he had already put in many years as an E-6 in SF. He was a kick-ass, take names and enjoy training type, as long as you also were good at your job and upheld the Airborne Creed.

Sadly, once we returned to Bragg (from Vicenza) he disappeared back into the SF world,,a shame, he was a HELL of a good leader of men.
