It's all on you now Flea so suck it up, drive on, just do it, and kick ass! (No... I'm not going to say good luck for reasons mentioned earlier in this thread... )

Best of luck to Flea! Quotes from this thread: | "ROP is for tabbed NCOs and officers going to the 75th for the first time or returning after time away. RIP is for non-tabbed enlisted men. - 509 Trooper" |
"Roger that Barry. NCO's and Officers cannot go to a Ranger Bn without a tab. They must first go through Ranger School, then ROP, then Regiment. - Delta 6" "ROP is intended for ranger-airborne qualified personnel (NCO and officer) who have never served in the regiment or are coming back after some time away, regardless of MOS or branch. - Ranger Rios"
All true - UNLESS they are assigned to the Regiment's USAF TACPs or SOWT. Our USAF guys go to ROP, even without being Tabbed - Because they work in the Regiment and Battalions without being tabbed. Last I heard, the USAF won't let ALOs go to Ranger school anymore. One poor ol' F-15 pilot lost an eye while patrolling at night and that was the end of it, I guess. On the SOWT side, it's hard to get our chain of command to allow our guys to go. We've only had two guys go so far, but we have a few scheduled for this next fiscal year. On the TACP side, they have had a LOT of guys go to Ranger school.

JR, we were mainly referring to Army personnel, after all the 75th is a U.S. Army infantry regiment (SOF). What was an F-15 pilot doing in Ranger school? Was he reclassifying as a TACP or CCT?

Yep - I know why you guys were doing it - I'm just here trying to fly the flag for the USAF, Ranger! I'm surprised at your attempt to justify a lack of attention to detail on the part of your fellow paratroopers, Ranger. Tsk, tsk... Truthfully - You guys usually tend to leave us USAF types out when talking about stuff like this, but you definitely remember to invite us when the fight's on. Personally - I've always been proud to serve alongside my Brothers in Green. Hooah! As for the F-15 pilot - He was a Ranger ALO (Air Liaison Officer). They don't "reclassify" into TACP - They pull out-of-cockpit tours. TACPs don't have full-time officers - It's all done on rotations. From JCS Pub 1-02 at:http://www.dtic.mil/doctrine/jel/doddict/ air liaison officer (DOD) The senior tactical air control party member attached to a ground unit who functions as the primary advisor to the ground commander on air power. An air liaison officer is usually an aeronautically rated officer. Also called ALO. See also liaison.

JR, BTW - recently a USAF ALO trained and certified myself and 12 of my guys to do CCT type work in Northern Iraq. No more details for OPSEC reasons.

JR, thanks for the info. I have never heard or read exactly what the AF personnel had to go through when assigned to the 75th.
Furham, I trust Flea is doing well in training. Send him our best wishes.
