Just a bit of info on member requirements for the VFW, if you ever did a tour in the Sinai you are eligible for membership in that organization.

I wasn't on active duty during that period (I was in from '76-'80) but I was in the Michigan National Guard during the August '82 - July '84 period.   During that time, I would be "activated" during summer camp each year -- does this mean I was on Federal Duty at least one day during that time?

If yes, I would join.   Maybe I'll just stop by my local AL someday soon and inquire.

Member in good standing of AL Post 211 Avon Lake.  In our town, the AL is the only vets group with a decent facility.  The next town over has Amvets and the VFW.  We  have a happening bar, lots of social events, and CHEAP drinks.

Not much of a wine selection (the basics red and white) pull off tickets and lots of smoke!.  Sounds like a second home!

I'm a life member of VFW but have not yet joined American Legion. To be honest, it has taken a back burner to other organizations I need to join such as the 187th Regimental and the Old Guard Assn's. Eventually, I may join, though. Need to become an officer to afford it.

Jim just joined the AL here in Fairborn, Oh.  Beautiful facility.  He was waiting for his new dress uniform to get its badges sewn on, wandered across the street and became a member.  Waiting to hear if they have a riding group for us to join.
