Was talking with the HH6 and told her I was thinking about getting out after this enlistment. She mentioned to me that she knows how much I'd miss this stuff. Keep in mind Ive already got out once. Like I tell the young troops, although it does suck at times, I can still count more good days than bad that Ive had since Ive been in. Civillians dont know what rough is. Not just for us but for the family as well. With all this high-tech stuff we are getting, the army needs smart people to operate it. It may have been true that Infantry was for dumb people but not anymore. As a Recruiter I seen people with 4yr degrees go Infantry. Just because they wanted a challenge. Im thinking about changing to combat arms. At least they repect each other, unlike my MOS.

We get the best training, get to shoot all kind of weapons ,We get to go to far away lands,We get to work long hours and sometimes days, get to crall around in the mud and swamps ,have cold chow ,sleepless nights , low pay ,travel light and freeze at night ,and we love it

As a Infantry SSG i loved it hated it but if i hade it to do over i would not change one bit of it for all the money in the world

Infantry is THE place to be.  (1)Everybody is cool, (2)everyone respects each other, (3)lots of cohesion and teamwork, (4)commradery and morale is high, and the best thing, (5)NO women in the unit.  HOOAH!!!

Number (5) makes numbers (1) thru (4) possible.

I have tons of respect for the infantry.  I know I jumped, rucked, shot with all of em, and if you know your job and do your thing the best you can, they respect you no matter what your MOS.  Best compliment a commo dog ever got that I can say is during JMPI, from and infantry JM "Goddamn, what the hell you got in that thing!?, You commo?" "HOAH JUMP MASTER!"  Don't know if he felt sorry for me or got all excited to see a trooper all ready to go.

just did one of those rucks from range 73 (small mout city) last week. 12 miler or so after a couple days brushing up on cqb stuff. civilians don't understand how you can have such strong feelings of "this sucks, but i'm having fun" but that's ok it makes the club all that much more exclusive.

what was the % of the army that is infantry?

anyway, got back cleaned our weapons and did 100%, THEN instead of being released for the weekend we got to go to the new barracks and mow/edge/police call for another 4 hours. a nice treat!

I think it's about 20% of Soldiers are Infantry.

I could have gone to college instead of enlisting in high school. When I was in Basic I had the opportunity to be part of the President's communications setup(can't remember what it is called now). The guys who handle the commo for the President in the White House and do the advance work when he leaves DC. However, I turned it down to stick with my enlistment contract. Instead of reenlisting I could have left the service and gone to college or gotten another MOS. However, I wanted to stay an infantryman and a Paratrooper.

While I couldn't have explained it then I needed to be at the tip of the spear. I have always needed the challenge in order to motivate me to try and excel. And while I didn't always live up to that challenge, I always looked for it.

Wild Bill Guarnere said it best in BOB, (paraphrasing)I was just one small cog in a large machine and I have always been proud of doing my part.
