Hey no CIB here. I,m happy as hell to have  3rd Corps on my right arm. I still see alot of slick right sleeves walking around in the U.S.A

Blind Faith in your leaders or your country will get you killed.

Extremist are nuts on either side. Moderation is key in seeking the truth.

Having been both 11B and MI (97E) I can attest that there are excellent and piss poor soldiers in both areas.  I was VERY anti-female in the military while I was an 11-bang-bang.  In Vicenza, it would seem that we hardly ever saw a female as they pretty much stayed the hell out of Airborne territory.  Turns out, some of the best troops I commanded were MI females.   We had a few terrible soldiers, but they should not have been in the Army to begin with.  As a group, the gals were hard corps, drank like us, PT'd like studettes and we rated out as the best section in the 1st AD once PT scores, civilian education, marksmanship etc was looked at in 1993.  We were interrogators though, so maybe that was the difference...

Of course, it could have been that we NCOs were all prior combat arms and trained them like soldiers and not like "girls"...shit, one of my proudest moments was when I got to watch one of my female Interrogators call for fire during a FTX in front of the 5th Corps CSM when several 11B types had just failed in the mission...

And yes JR, it's true...you are not a paratrooper unless you are in the INFANTRY!

Let's see here.....you have to observe the target thru binos, know wether or not it's a T-72 or a T-80, estimate the range to said target, round that off to the nearest 100 meters to determine your OT factor, multiply that times your mil reading in the binos, shoot an azimuth with your lensatic compass and convert those degrees into mils, determine an 8-digit grid to the target, estimate the target altitude based of the contour interval illustrated in the marginal data of the mapsheet, put it all together in one neat little "Call-For-Fire" format and send it to the mortars. And all this was done AFTER you had to refill the ASIP radio with your ANCD, checked your operational overlay graphics to determine if the mortars were within range of this target and that the target wasn't inside any NFA, RFA or CFL, verified that the airspace coridor was clear below the maximum ordinate of the given mortar system, and constructed a field-expedient OE-292 antenna with the appropriate length of WD-1 wire based of the the single-channel frequency wave-length that was pre-determined in the command & signal paragraph of the OPORD. Not to mention that you had to apply all the fundamentals observation and fields of fire, cover and concealment, avenues of approach and key terrain just to get into position.

Yeah......I can see where we Infantry types could be considered a bunch of dumb MF'ers.

Sorry men......sometimes I get up on the soapbox and have a break in contact between my mouth and my brain. Feel free at anytime to reach into the breach kit, grab the grappling hook and reel me in.
