Hey there guys and gals

Got a question. I am thinking about coming back in. This time though I would like to do the WO thing and get flight school. Is this even possible? All the guys I knew who came back in got shafted one way or the other, and I would just like to have things go well for once.
The other problem is that I wasn't granted a secret clearance about 2 years ago and this was the primary reason I left the Army in January of this year. Now I have that itch again and I would just love to figure out a way to get my clearance maybe even before I come back in so that I can directly jump into what I want to do.

Or, I am going to go to school and see if I can't get a commision through ROTC. Anyhow I love to do cool things and the way it it you can only do those with a secret clearance.
Help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

You can get into WOFCS (Warrant Officer Flight Candidate School) if you have a 4 yr degree(or 120 credits) or have attained E4 and have 2 yrs of college(or 60 credits).

Of course to be a warrant or commissioned you do need the secret clearance. Do you know or have a good idea of what disqualified you for the clearance the first time? Also, am I wrong or do you need a secret to be in Ranger BN?

You do not need any college to get in to WOCS and Flight School. You can come right out of High School and go in or you can be a buck PVT and apply.

Matador275 go and contact your nearest Recruiter and tell him you want to apply for the WOFT program. They might be kind of stand offish at first many don't want to deal with the paper work. Being prior service will help you out also.

I had a account in germany from which I drew while on leave,
and usage of foreign passport (Passport preference)

Just so all of you know just how ridiculous this one is:

My account in germany has been there since I was 12 and has never had more than 400 DM at the time in it.

And if you have ever travelled into europe you know that after a long flight you do not want to wait in the non-eu citizien line if you have a eu-passport in your pocket.

Thats how damn pathetic this whole issue is.

And to your question VO Trooper :
Yes you do need a secret clearance to be anywhere in SOCOM.
After about 14 security applications I figured I had it. LOL.
Well I didn't. The funny thing was they found out after 2 years.
What a bunch of tools the clearance guys are.

Thanks 8thday...
Did that yesterday and the guy told me there was NO way he could do it, but I would have much better chances coming back in as e5 to any division I wanted and from there I could put in my packet. The thing is I have really good friends who are pilots in that cool unit with all the new toys who say they'll give me a recommendation in a heartbeat. I told that recruiter that I wasn't about to come in without my fixed clearance, because I just don't think that I am ready to play that game again. He said that he could have my clearance packet in and very likely ready by the time I get to my new unit. If I remember right, there is a certain waiting period for the packets. Correct me if I am wrong.

I appreciate all your guys poop on this. If I am going to do this it's going to be straight in to WOCS, because I am not feeling the modified MP duty right now.

Well, that is new info to me on WOFTS. In 1997 those were the standards in place, as I looked into WOFTS quite a bit and that is what I was told were the standards.

However, the army is having trouble getting helo pilots, so needs of the army will always dictate standards.

Packets take a while to do. I've know guys who it took them about 5 months to do it. Your Recruiter may or may not be BSing you about there being "no way" but he might be telling the truth since you have security issues.
