Additional charges leveed against love triangle suspect
By Gidget Fuentes
Times Staff writer
MARINE CORPS AIR STATION MIRAMAR, Calif. — An officer charged with trying to murder his lover’s husband with a hand grenade in Kuwait in May will face additional criminal counts, officials said.
Warrant Officer 2 Larry A. Framness, already charged with attempted murder, will be charged with one count of obstruction of justice, one count of making a false official statement and two counts of violating Article 134 — a general provision covering actions prejudicial to good order and discipline or which would bring discredit upon the armed forces. In this case, the charges are communicating a threat and using an explosive device while committing a violent crime, officials said. Framness also is charged with conspiracy to commit murder, adultery and making false official statements.
Framness, 36, was a maintenance officer with Marine Wing Support Squadron 371 from Marine Corps Air Station Yuma, Ariz., when he allegedly tossed a grenade into a bunker to kill Chief Warrant Officer 2 James “Houston” Glass, 37.
Prosecutors contend that Framness and Wendy M. Glass, 33, crafted a scheme to kill her husband, a weather officer, and collect on two life insurance policies worth $350,000.
Framness is confined to the brig here, where he will be formally arraigned on the charges on Sept. 26, said Staff Sgt. Michael T. Mink, a base spokesman. Wendy Glass was indicted June 4 in Phoenix, Ariz., along with Framness, and is out on bond pending her trial, tentatively set for Nov. 4 in Phoenix.
Investigators say the couple tried to kill her husband on at least two occasions. Before the alleged attempt at Camp Ali al-Salam Air Base in Kuwait, investigators allege the couple planned to kill Glass last year by getting him drunk and sending him, in his truck, off a cliff east of San Diego. But Wendy Glass backed off at the last minute, according to investigators.
Glass was only slightly wounded in the grenade attack May 14 and he has since recovered.
Framness’ defense attorneys argued that he never meant to kill or hurt Houston Glass, and said the grenade incident was a joke
