You should not fire into the air, period. I guess we'll find out pretty soon, from our media, whether it's true or not.

If we have aircraft flying high up and they see ground fire WAAAAYYYYY down there, they need to chill out and wait before they drop bombs or shoot stuff up. There was a wedding party in Afghanistan (not the one with senior AQ dudes, another one), four Canadian soldiers and now this wedding party that shouldn't be dead today.
Go with God, but make Him walk the point.
If you load a mudfoot down with a lot of gadgets he has to watch somebody a lot more simply equipped - say with a stone axe - will sneak up and bash his head in while he is trying to read a Vernier. - Robert Heinlein

rick, I agree, we have air dominance over Iraq and we should hold our fire to get PID (positive ID). Getting PID first is part of our ROE now here. I'm sure it is the same for the fly boys. Last month two AH64s were downed near Fallujah/Baghdad with one crew KIA so they might be a little lose on the trigger.

According to DoD, there was an operation underway on a group of infiltrators from Syria at the time in that area.

On a side note, there is a lot of that "Shooting in the air" that goes on in LA. I believe that it is a hispanic tradition and I know a lot of Mexican families do it especially on 5 May. Luckily LA is not a war zone...oh wait it is...but there just aren't any attack helicopters flying around.
