Cherry,

You can send me a letter or postcard. I'll make sure everyone here has your're BCT address. (Plus, my HH6 will send you cookies.) (check you're e-mail for me address.)

Also, when you are questioning your DS, normally the first sarcastic, smart-ass answer that pops into your mind is the generally the one to go with. [thup][thup][thup]

Seriously, if you can get through BCT without the drills knowing your name, you done well........

Don't be first, don't be last and don't volunteer.

If you have the standard-style safety razor, I've never had a problem crrying one on, even through Logan Airport in Boston. If you're concerned, check it.

In case you haven't recorded these long ago, I'd offer these basics:

- Do some hiking to get your feet in shape.
- When you stand at attention, look straight ahead, the DI's don't like to be "eyeballed." But if they are speaking with you one-on-one, they expect you to make eye contact, something not natural for many cultural backgrounds.
- When you screw up, unlike your teachers your DI does not want a detailed answer. Just say, "No excuse, Sergeant." He'll know you've been briefed....

Vikingsoldat, if you take pics during OSUT, just have them developed with the CD option along with the photos, then you'll have them in digital format as well. Not expensive, and risking a good camera on anything that would make an "interesting" picture might not be worthwhile. Those throwaways with the plastic "waterproof" housing may be a better bet. I brought a camera and took pics from the first day of inprocessing. I can't find them, but that's a different problem...

Both of you should take to heart the old saying "There's no better friend than money in the bank." Best of luck to you both. While challenging, thousands of men before you have made it through this training, and so will you.

Just listen and do what you are told. If you just follow that simple advice everything will go fine. I never did anything until I was told to and then did it exactly the way they told me too. If you listen to exactly what they say then everything will be fine. Maybe their is a better way or a faster way, but its not the army or DS's way so it is wrong.

Basic is pretty easy if you are in shape. You just have to get used to losing your freedom for awhile.

I have been in the DEP since last Dec. When I go to MEPS to ship out, can they pull a fast one and try to change my contract?

I tried to get a State ID, but they said it would take a min of 3 weeks to get here. My DEP ID has a photo on it, would that work? Thats what they told me it was for when they issued it to me. The funny thing is, Its not mentioned in the pre-basic stuff or the check list for MEPS.

The Army can always change things but I doubt it. I know when I went in it was during Desert Storm and they thought they were going to need 11M's so they changed all the contracts to state that. I was lucky enough to be one of the few they didn't

I really can't answer the question about the photo id. I have never really heard of anyone not having one.

Don't fret about it, if there's a document you don't have they'll tell you.

Do you have a passport? You may be able to get one pretty fast if you go to the right place. Comes in handy anyway. You need a "Certified birth certificate issued by the city, county or state. A certified birth certificate has a registrar's raised, embossed, impressed or multicolored seal, registrar’s signature, and the date the certificate was filed with the registrar's office, which must be within 1 year of your birth"

Check out http://travel.state.gov/passport_services.html
Good luck.
