Nice article in the latest Airman about you CRG guys...

Not to take away from his accomplishments, but the things the medic said kinda showed he wasn't really well trained for this type of mission...

Do your support-types get any kind of survival training?

JR,
very true about the medic. Oddly enough, that individual was in great shape and had two cold weather injuries while in Bashur alone. It was a good lessons learned for him and the unit.

As far as official survival training, the answer is no. We do accomplish some "in house" but no formal schools as of yet. I do know that the Ravens sections in AMC are sending their troops to Fairchild and we are trying to incorporate it in the CRG's as well

He was our only CWI, which does not make it okay, especially since he was our only medic(AF/CRG) to jump in. We are making changes to that as well, squaring up more team members in Combat Lifesaver and EMT.

"In-house" training can be good, but is basically limited to the personal proactivity and motivation of the personnel assigned. We used it as a standard for years in STW, based on the LEGS in charge of us not letting us attend any formal training. They thought it took too much time - Freakin' LEG morons!

A couple of us where I work are working on the STW portion Ground Warrior Initiative, and a collateral Ground Combat Forces/Special Operations University-type developmental concept.

Send me a direct e-mail off-line so we can do a "mind-meld" on some items which could definitely help all concerned...

BTW - That article also said you guys were the first conventional AF guys to jump. Not to take away from your excellent achievement, but conventional airborne TACPs jumped in to Panama with the 82nd...

have to agree with JR and SN here. Cops are without a doubt conventional forces regardless of the training we recieved. I am trained to perform a conventional mission simple as that. Nothing special.

I think that they often overlook TACP's as coventional because they are not set up like the typical forces are. I believe they said we were the first because we were the first conventional squadron to accomplish this. That does not make it right, but I think I see why...

JR,
I will shoot you an email tomorrow. I look forward to getting your ideas. We are in Africa right now. My CAPT has just informed me that I will be in charge of training when we return so I look for your insight

Sorry to hear about the canx. I am sure your balls were blue for weeks!LOL Schieber is a good man. I jumped with him at CK02 last year in France. We are glad as hell to have him. I will tell him you said hello. You boys back home now? Give Jonny Storms and Nuvell a hearty AIRBORNE from me!
