Good link for army specialized training info:

http://goarmy.com/life/specialized_schools.jsp

Those new army links are pretty good.  There is no excuse now, cherries interested in the army need to do their homework first at "goarmy.com" before throwing maybe more specific questions at us.  Saves a lot of time and writing.

the reason given was winds. Rather than risk student injury on the 250, they choose to simply skip it since in reality the 250 really doesnt make any difference. Your practicing slip and plf which you should have plf'd enough in ground week and your last 250 on the live jump is plenty of experience.

AND most of the time for students at the 250 is standing around watching the OTHER students so much more training can be packed in during that time.

I am looking at all this and I am wondering why the 250 tower jump hasn't been taken out of the schedule. Most are saying its more dangerous than actually jumping and the tower is "broke" from time to time. I am wondering , do they find it broke before someone jumps, during or after they jump. Nothing is risk free but, looking at all this I am agreeing with Rigger82 that they should be doing something that will be more important. I have wasted too much time, that is my own fault, but I am making a great effort not to waste anymore of my time or your time.
And the answer to this may be something simple that yall learned in BCT or BAT and since I have not had the privilege and the honor to attend either please be patient.
Thanks

The Towers can be great training tools when they are working right.  I would like to see the Army spend the money to repair them in order to allow all students the chance to jump them.

They are not more dangerous than jumping.  The canopy is already deployed and if something happens on the way up students are connected to a safety line.  There is some danger involved, but jumping itself is dangerous and produces far more injuries.  Sometimes students wind up going into the Tower, but the benefit of being under a real canopy and doing a real PLF is a great confidence builder.

When I went through BAC in '90, I was "strung up" on the tower. Come to think of it, the tower was more scary than actually exiting an aircraft while in flight.

This sounds familiar I went through BAC in early '53 (only we called it Jump School then), and got hoisted up the 250' tower.  As best as I can remember, I did't like that feeling of just hanging there, before being released for descent. Actually, also for me that was the scatriest thing in jump school.

Stand in the door!

I found the towers to be more disconcerting than the actual jumps...

Hooahs and wannabes, go to the following link to watch a cool army airborne video.  Once in the page scroll down to the "Airborne Combat Equipment Jump" link and click on it.  Takes a few minutes to download.  Enjoy.

Bro when I saw your quote it reminded me of my first day of jump school back in Oct. 87' when the Black Hat came out in front of the assembled company with the bullhorn to address us about the school. I was in Charlie Company and at that time Bravo Company was going through Tower Week, just as the Senior Black Hat was making a point about our being in Tower Week he points to his left to the towers just at the same time some hapless trooper from Bravo Company had been taken by the wind in to the towers and stuck there.  I found this to be quite funny as he then starts shouting in to his bullhorn the usual."Who wants to Quit" routine.  I don't think anyone quit that day since it was only the first day's formation but stranger things have happened at Jump School I'm sure.

I'm Surprised Panama's still sea level, after all the Push Ups I did down there.
