The cover doesn't suck, the use of the cover by the Air Force sucks.

Go with God, but make Him walk the point.

Senior seems to like though he has not used it tactically yet. He did however use it on a jump fest out here in Graf.(six helo's jumps in two days) and commented on the durability. He may be a little biased, he was the POC for distribution in the area. There was a pic on af.mil of him jumping out of a HH60 and he glows in that blue uniform. If you get a chance do a search there and you will see what I am talking about.

Still, not a fan and definitely not a fan of the hat and I have given it an honest look since I see it everyday in the office.

As far as the hat thing goes, just give me my damn PC and I am good.

Ponyboy,

I saw the picture of the MSgt.  Like you say, there's no denying it.  I like some of the features (wash and wear/perma press), and the wicking t-shirts.  The three buttons, I'm not sure about, but the name embroidered on, OK.  The hat is just a goofy rip-off.  The boots are OK, better than cordura jump boots.

I see the post commander (female 1 star) in hers, and it cracks me up!

Of course, you can't forget what she looks like, as she has about 50 pics per week in the base rag.

Ya I am sure she is getting some good solid test information out of that uniform. Between her in the paper and the four star on doing 8 million commercial spots in AFN its impossible to forget who we work for overhere....

I saw the new camo uniform up close on a 720 STG tester while I was back at Hurlburt recently.

I see no problem with it, truthfully.    Here's why:

1.  Those of us in the USAF who need to be camo'd in the field will wear what we need to wear, based on operational requirements.  Effectiveness of the camo pattern is therefore a non-issue.  Additionally, the camo pattern doesn't seem (in my opinion) to be all that ineffective.  It certainly doesn't scream out as a blue color when viewed in person, it just seems to have a slight tint to it.  **NOTE - Colors viewed on computer monitors are RARELY accurate, unless both the photos AND the monitor are color-synchronized - Something to keep in mind when commenting on the uniform if you've only seen it online.

2.  As a purely PRACTICAL measure, a camo uniform is good for the USAF, because it helps cover all the hydraulic spills on the uniforms of all those maintenance guys on the flightline.  Anyone but me remember how BAD those old greens could get looking on some of those guys?

3.  It seems to instill pride, due to the uniqueness of the uniform.  That can't be a bad thing at all.

My only criticisms:

1.  The headgear needs NOT to copy the USMC cover.  That should be a proprietary piece of kit for the USMC and those few USN ground-pounders out there.  Go with the BDU cap pattern and be done with it.

2.  The unique boots are goofy looking in the gray color.

So the USAF chose their camo pattern soley on the basis of looks and style only.  Go ahead, you can admit it JR.

I keep hearing the "3% rule" crap, but who decides who "needs" camo and who doesn't? By my AFS, I'm a plumber. My team is comprised of electricians, carpenters, equipment operators and surveyors. We also have firemen attached to the team. Despite our individual AFS, we're all airborne.

The numbers of people who need "real" camouflage is skewed. Hopefully a reality check will ensue and the color choice and boots will go away.
